My cat passed in
Aug
He loved to play in a grocery bag and boxes
Personally, I feel the stick toy is easier to get a cat to play if they are kittens. I adopted a 4 year old cat 4 weeks ago. She did spend a lot of time alone, so itโs taking time to get her use to being with people. I have a stick toy, but I have gotten no response with it. She does sometimes plays with plastic bags, but thatโs it for now. Iโll continue with the stick, but a kitten will play with anything.
Toys on sticks and little silly balls, that’s the golden standard over here.
My cat is very hard to keep entertained, I must have 20 – odd wand attachments (including bits of sticks and grass that I find outdoors), she absolutely loves playing with them for a day and then she will never look at them again, no matter how much time I invest in making them move like prey!
Iโm like 2 steps away from a stick with a sock ๐ my cat will only play with toys made of garbage. She doesnโt care about anything we buy & will only play with broken ones or ones that Iโve tied random bits of sting to.
The one toy that cats never get tired of in my house is a length of drawstring cord with a knot in the end that I dangle around and drag through arms in furniture and so on. It cost nothing. It’s been laying around in a drawer since 2003. A variation is I found a little stuffed turkey with feathers and I tied the cord around the neck. Either version, not one of them has ever tired of these in over two years.
I always try to buy the Jackson galaxy wand toy but often only the extension is available & not the actual wand. Itโs pretty expensive like $22+ I still want it tho! He recommended the Yow Banana & it was my cats first cat nip toy & he has really enjoyed it.
Hopefully the actual wands will be available again & sold together with the other piece. & maybe even other / different extensions will be made for us to customize it with 2 or 3 other different things like a slightly larger stuffed animal type thing for cats who love to bite.
With every cat I’ve ever had, the feathery ball being cast by a fishing pole and sporadically reeled in has always been the toy of choice.
i made a wand for my cat, out of recycled stuff. 2 disposable bamboo chopsticks, a cooking twine, and the curly ribbons of party balloons that i brought home from a party. my cat loves it and it cost nothing! our ritual is to play just before my bedtime.
Mine goes after NOTHING xept the darn laserpointer
Instant sub. It’s great that people are being encouraged to keep them indoors! Cats can’t help it if they are hunters. In Europe, for example, ground-nesting birds and reptiles are practically extinct in many areas.
Hey, itโs Dick Kirschner! Hi, Dick!
Showing your some luuuuuuuv.
Excellent, informative video. Thank you! We recently bought your air wand and I’ve never seen our cat play so hard. Good to see him moving more. The retractable pole and line work great.
My cat used to LOVE IT when I would run around the house with a gift bow on a string. It was my mom’s favorite way to watch us play since we were both getting exercise. Even as an old kitty she loved watching me run back and forth with the shiny bow trailing behind and pouncing on it! We adopted her a little over 10 years ago as a grown adult cat who wasn’t well cared for in her previous home, and she died last year. I’m forever grateful that she was in our lives.
Well not to boost your ego so stop, but when I bring out the fether wand my cat go’s nutty she likes it the best favorite toy bar nun
Just found your channel this weekend. Weโre on the same wavelength when it comes to cats and I so appreciate you making these videos to educate cat caretakers, thank you!
"The arrival of the raw cat" I love it. Funny because it’s true. ๐บ๐ฃ๐งโโ๏ธ
My cat loves for me to play with her with a wand toy. If I pick up my phone to check a text, she stops playing and gives me a dirty look! So I donโt use my phone while we play. The bonding is more important!
My girl’s favorite toy is a shiny pipe cleaner, she brings it to me and I toss it, she hunts it, wrestle, kill it, bring it again ๐ we run through a couple a week, sometimes they end up under things I cannot lift, someday I’ll move the furniture and we’ll find the biggest den of shiny feral pipe cleaners
My boy doesn’t have any interest in toys that don’t require human participation. Probably because I’ve taken a lot of Jackson’s advice and have a very spoiled, happy cat.
The fishing pole toy is his favorite ๐
my one kitten loves any ball that make noise to the point we gotta take it away so she sleeps and she loves playing with our other kitty and shoelaces they can attack
6:18 Losing my mind at that precious little hunter. How dare he not get more screen time.
my cats love my boxing wraps, they are filled with my odor, and i make it go trough the floor like a snake, but i want to give a try those robot mice and the stick thing
Special shoutout does have to go to the cat-tunnel as well. Not really like a "toy" in the traditional sense, but when it comes to playing with cats, they are a huge amplifier in energy. I have yet to meet a cat, that has had one of those things and doesn’t go absolutely crazy playing in and around it.
Yesterday evening we were playing football (socker) with a paper ball, and when I shot the ball away he picked it up and put the ball next to me so it became fetch, I hit the ball away, cat showing off his socker skills for a moment, pick it up, bring it to me!
My cat loves when I play under a blanket.
And I got the scars to prove it ๐๐๐
Also, let them actually get the thing and feel proud of themselves. I see ppl who have to win against their cats and it’s kinda pathetic, sad for the cat. Build them up, make them confident! Even when they’re old and arthritic, there’s ways. I got a bubble fish lamp for my geriatric and it helped her in the end when declining due to end stage kidney failure. As awful as it was to see her decline, she still liked to fall asleep watching those dang fake guppy fishes and her final conscious memory was a kitty smile when being pet and feeling the sunshine on her face as she watched her last sunset ๐๐ I miss her so much but gave her the most love I could while she was here and especially in her last days, hours and minutes. Held her 22 hrs straight RIP my sweet angel
I’ve had my two 11 and 10 year old tortie/calico girlies for about 3 weeks. One was shy, otherone practically came to me after the first meal. The shy one hid under my bathtub until I went to sleep, she came demanding pets, at dawn she hid again, had the bathroom closed so in her crate. Braver one coaxed her out when we played with a birb on a stick. Started playing with them every day now we chill most of the time. Also the shy cat at first, she ain’t all that shy no more. She is the most accurate hunting enthusiast i’ve seen at the range.
soft chewy ring from a milk jug.
No one sells your feather wand toy anymore. โน๏ธ I looked on Chewy and Amazon and they didnโt have it. I do have other wand toys they play with so at least they have those.
My cats like empty TP rolls
I will add a cautionary note here… when done using a toy with a string put it up and away.. i had a maincoon get his leg wrapped in the string. The lil toy also haad some sort of rattle thing inside… well as it got wrapped around his leg.. well he got scared and ran the more he ran the more the toy chased him. He also ran over the lap of my better half and gave her some serious scratches. . I need to use a towel to trap him and get his leg free from the toy
… poor kitty never went near that toy again… It could have been far worse if it got wrapped around his neck… Please be carefull with the toys…
Thanks for this video. I was about to drop hundreds on interactive, battery powered toys when the things i have at home are more than enough, if not better.

My cat, Priscilla’s, favorite toy is me! ๐
In other words, my Pampered Priss agrees with you: she prefers to play with me over playing independently. ๐ธ
Cat Lures is by far the perfect toy for my cats. They love all the different variety of lures and go crazy trying to catch them.
If I could send a video, I would. I ordered the banana toy, and my cat LOVES it!!!
3′ cut of 1/2" wide plain silver nylon ribbon on a stick. My Maisie is 2 and demands about 3hrs daily undivided ribbon play. She watches me to make sure I’m REALLY engaged. I love her and miss her paper bag phase.
But what about unpredictable electronic toys? (if they exist, I mean)
My male kittens love the little jingly ball. I toss, they go chase it and do radically maneuvers in pursuit, then they wait and I come get it and throw it across the room again. Sometimes they bring it back to me, like a dog would.
Great advice, leave them wanting more by putting them away, Play with our cats, Thank you Jackson Galaxy
Get the brown paper floor protector (thin one) from Home Depot. Cut off a 5 foot section and lay it on the floor.
They love it
I am buying lifelike remote black snakes and small Remote gray mice. My cat is a hunter.
Shoelaces are my cat’s favorite toy!
This is a "look at the behavior of your particular cat" sorta thing, but my cat loves it when I just chase him around the house. I can tell he’s fine because he doesn’t run off to actually hide or anything, and sometimes if I stop to do something he will run after me lol. It’s just a kinda fun way to get energy out and it doesn’t even involve a toy (especially because my cat can be weird about sounds like bells etc). Which is of course not to say I don’t play with my cat, he has a worm on a string toy he’s destroyed the string of. But the idea of pavlovian training putting it away and taking it out is a good idea
"waiting for that moth to make a mistake" I laughed so hard
I adopted a kitten and of all the fancy toys Iโve bought him, the one toy he loves the most is a little mouse with a shoe string tied to it. Itโs the least brightest and appealing in my eyes, but to him itโs everything. ๐๐๐
Great video!!! Thank you
Milk ring.
I know this is an old video, but my Maine coon loves his "worm on a stick". I have several different types of toys to hang on the wand, bird, feathers, ribbons, ect but his favorite is the "worm" or "rat tail". He even starts predicting my movements and can catch it before I wanted him too, he’s just that good of a hunter. Then he walks around with it dangling out of his mouth looking for a good place to sit and "eat" it. Meanwhile I’m walking right behind him still holding the stick in my hand, so it looks like we’re just on a walk. Then when he settles down with his catch, he gets his "good boy, you mighty little hunter" and his food, then he naps. We do this 2, sometimes 3 times a day.
