Thank you for this info. I have been feeding my fur baby homemade food for a couple of months but struggle with the portions. I want to make her this recipe in the video. Can someone pls help me with portions of food AND the supplements included for a 4 yr female yorkie, with a slight sensitive belly? I really hope someone can help me out with it.

Save & bake your egg shells, then grind them up in a blender, turns into powder called bone powder!! Pure calcium! Don’t use sunflower oil, opt or extra virgin olive or coconut oil, sunflower is a highly processed seed oil, it’s not good for you!

  3. @sherylodom5140 on September 27, 2025 at 6:42 pm

Do you have a good recipe for very low protein salt. I have a senior Retriever in kidney failure and he hates the dry Kidney Care food even if laced with chicken broth. I have made a few recipes with very low meat, potatoes, a little rice, and veggies.

Wondering about the Arsenic in the brown rice?

  5. @Conny226 on September 27, 2025 at 6:47 pm

😂 I love how you call her puddle ❤❤❤❤❤

  6. @AnnieChristy-i7v on September 27, 2025 at 6:47 pm

No sunflower oil! No canola oil! No safflower oil!!! Sorry doc, this is toxic and not good for people or our beloved dogs. Rice is also not good! We nor dogs need carbs to live a healthy life. Thank you.

  7. @magentaangel5531 on September 27, 2025 at 6:47 pm

My dogs have always eaten home cooked food, they absolutely HATE dog food and kibble, they will not touch them.

  8. @wendyvanrooy9040 on September 27, 2025 at 6:48 pm

I’d substitute coconut oil for the sunflower oil and sweet potato for the brown rice

  9. @justjen3216 on September 27, 2025 at 6:48 pm

This video super helpful. May i ask…ive seen alot of people o line saying arsenic is in the rice…is this the case? I’ve been using brown rice because I’ve read alot that it is more nutritious than white. Seems like no matter how had one tries to make good food there is always someone to say its wrong😊

I’m currently making your dog food recipe and I have three dogs a two year-old Siberian husky, a five-year-old Lhasa Apso + Boston Terrier mix, and a four month old golden retriever. If I grind my own premium fresh flax how much of it would I add directly into the food when I make it I typically make about a weeks worth at a time sometimes more than freeze it so how much flax would I use per pound of protein to put directly into the food?

  12. @GudjaPillai-jt7ne on September 27, 2025 at 6:51 pm

In India we can’t get beef, the holy cow. Only chicken and mutton, that’s too fatty, not very good for dogs. Chicken bones are extremely dangerous, too pointy, they can cause inner bleeding. Never give dogs chicken bones a veterinary begged me,there have been too many deaths of inner bleeding..

  13. @Littlerascal0913 on September 27, 2025 at 6:53 pm

Dogs in the wild eat meat!🍖

  14. @baskingintheglory on September 27, 2025 at 6:55 pm

Just to let you know if you are wondering but Swiss Chard is extremely in oxalate and very unhealthy for your gut.

  15. @nicoletastaicu9504 on September 27, 2025 at 6:55 pm

Thank u for this great recipe. The only thing I don’t t agree with- the sunflower oil. All Seed oils are very inflammatory. I would replace it with olive oil.

  16. @celiachavez754 on September 27, 2025 at 6:57 pm

I returned to the science diet for my French Bassett Hound and I noticed more lumping on his chest, so I’m trying this stuff. The poodle puppy eats anything. Good Grief! So I’m certain he’ll go for it. Thank You Dr. Jones.

  18. @caitlinoneill4479 on September 27, 2025 at 7:00 pm

I would forgo the rice and sunflower oil. No seed oils for me or my fur babies.

  19. @jodymayer6882 on September 27, 2025 at 7:04 pm

Doc, what is that pooch you have there? We just adopted one that looks just like yours but smaller and I have a problem with her butt and when going outside she has some pain, in the beginning, I’m trying to push water but that don’t always work, so I add more than needed water to her 2 meals, but when pooping sometimes she lets out an unGodly squeel and I could just cry. Vet says everything is fine, but when she takes a look at our gal, she like puckers her butt up and everything looks just fine. I’m trying to get a picture of when the backside don’t look fine to show the vet, but I’m still working on that. Not an easy thing to get. I’m wondering, glands but you know we always think the worst. I been doing homemade but with these small ones with a lil bit of an itch, I do turkey. I have been doing these foil packets, they seem to be natural, but God only knows what all the ingredients are, but Im hoping going back to homemade helps this one. Our other girl is no longer with us, she was a big itcher and this one seems to be better with any itching problems, but I’m just worried about her pooping problem and the pain she’s having with that, most of the time, and her awfully red bunghole. Sorry for posting this outright, should have probably pm’d you. Maybe you’ll see this. So, TY, if you do see this

  20. @annagovor6996 on September 27, 2025 at 7:05 pm

Is this recipe ok for a large breed puppy?

  21. @johuntington3212 on September 27, 2025 at 7:05 pm

I was just curious about your recommendation on how much to feed a 90 lb dog per day of your homemade recipe. Rough math gives me about 5.75 cups daily. Is that correct, or do you have a different recommendation?

  22. @melissajohnson8497 on September 27, 2025 at 7:05 pm

So what do you think about the homemade fresh dog food out there like Ollie, Happy Howl, Fresh Pet, etc? Are they any good?

  23. @ruthnoronha8206 on September 27, 2025 at 7:06 pm

I wanted to go home made food route but when I travel I don’t always have access to a stove so I worried my dog getting used to my home made food then what will I do if I can’t cook?

  24. @valeriemorgan9401 on September 27, 2025 at 7:08 pm

I stopped cooking ground beef for my dogs because I heard that red meat (I also cooked steak for them) is really not good for them What is your opinion please?

  25. @MichaelTerry-h5w on September 27, 2025 at 7:08 pm

couldn’t you just add the egg shells instead of the calcium?

  26. @baublesanddolls on September 27, 2025 at 7:12 pm

My dog refuses any kibble and eats only raw.

  27. @CaptainsLady on September 27, 2025 at 7:13 pm

I pressure cook their food with:
    Coconut oil
    Broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and spinach
    Pumpkin puree
    Brown rice
    Baby calf liver
    (In this order).
    When done I add:
    Finely crushed eggshells
    Turmeric.
They gobble it up once they’ve calmed down lol
When it’s really hot outside I let them eat it by itself.
Kibble is breakfast with olive oil for a soft and shiny coat. Sometimes I will add cheese.
Kibble is also used as a snack, which they rarely eat it all gone.
As for treats, I use cinnamon for their cookies.
They are so healthy. It amazes me how much different they are than them eating kibble regularly.
    Big difference.
I’ll be adding flaxseed and blueberries next time. Or flaxseed, blueberry, and cinnamon cookies 😎
Thank you for helping us pet parents out. I’ll be looking for cat videos from you.

  28. @Dennis-tf2cs on September 27, 2025 at 7:13 pm

Also, don’t cook the beef until it’s all brown, leave it VERY rare. It retains more of the nutrients that way.

  29. @stevedavey9250 on September 27, 2025 at 7:14 pm

I saw elsewhere that brown rice had more arsenic in it especially if grown in California? Quinoa? Pearled Barley? Thanks, great, helpful videos.

  30. @rossanalombardo6271 on September 27, 2025 at 7:16 pm

Could I give my dog spinach instead of chard.

  31. @JanetsDeliciousLowCarbKitchen on September 27, 2025 at 7:16 pm

Do you have any recipes for diabetic dogs? I’m working with my vet for a balanced diet for my diabetic dog.

  32. @eleanorferrier807 on September 27, 2025 at 7:16 pm

Brown rice is okay i been using white rice

  33. @Ohcomon on September 27, 2025 at 7:19 pm

I don’t like the chemicals in the vitamins and other stuff he mentioned..

  34. @ChrisRider on September 27, 2025 at 7:19 pm

We adopted a pit bull from the shelter – poor guy had terrible gas and poo issues. I switched him from a "premium" food we were using to this recipe – no gas, and nice stools now. It will take me some more time to make him food, but glad to if it keeps him feeling better. (Plus, his gas was really bad! He could clear a room).
Our other dog was doing good with the commercial food we bought, but she smells this recipe and refuses to eat her food. That’s ok – I feel ok switching them both to this recipe. Not really any extra work to make it for two compared to one. Plus, I know exactly what they are eating now.

  35. @dalesmith4019 on September 27, 2025 at 7:20 pm

Did I hear him say this was only 1/4 of the dog’s diet?

  37. @Oliver-le1us on September 27, 2025 at 7:22 pm

Thank you so much. Always use grass fed organic beef. There’s more poison and antibiotics and crap in what they feed those cows that’s harmful to the dogs.

  38. @AnnaMason-h4m on September 27, 2025 at 7:26 pm

Where cab I buy Dr’s vitamins

  39. @bobbijo1313 on September 27, 2025 at 7:29 pm

Any substitution for swiss Chard. My grocery store doesn’t carry it.

  40. @Ash-fn7wb on September 27, 2025 at 7:30 pm

What can I change with this if my dog is gaining weight from the food? Is there a grain free version?

Krill is food for whales we should not be harvesting krill from the oceans, i reckon there would be a better substitute available

  43. @Chantelle-oy7dr on September 27, 2025 at 7:34 pm

Hi Dr Jones! Is this recipe okay for dogs with history of gastroenteritis? I have been buying the expensive prescription diet (Hills Prescription Diet I/D low fat original flavour) and her body has agreed with it well but it’s quite expensive to purchase monthly and looking for a healthier, cheaper alternative. Thank you for your help! So appreciate all the work you do for us pet parents!!

  44. @Shahanshah550BC on September 27, 2025 at 7:36 pm

Sun flower oil? You serious? Lol

  45. @Gizmo_forever21 on September 27, 2025 at 7:37 pm

I thought you were not suppose to cook the meat

  46. @sherryschultz4977 on September 27, 2025 at 7:37 pm

I don’t see how i can make this since the smell of cooking meat makes me sick, unless i can give them canned meats….

  47. @LeahsAbiding23 on September 27, 2025 at 7:37 pm

I have a puppy. She’s three months old miniature dachshund. She won’t be more than 12 pounds probably. So I need to figure all of this for a dachshund of 12 pounds. I don’t imagine this would be good for a puppy, right

  48. @dmat7148 on September 27, 2025 at 7:37 pm

Great video, simple and easy to understand instructions.

  49. @AaronShen-s7b on September 27, 2025 at 7:38 pm

What are some of the symptoms that your dog is allergic to something? I’ve been feeding my pitbull mix pup cooked chicken with rice and vegetables. But I see I was over feeding and just filled up a 32 oz. bowl. She’s not over weight, but I can’t see her ribs.

She scratches her ears often and now wondering if it’s allergies to chicken or fleas?
