With my dog the puppy pads were gone in 3 days, she never once needed to use them because I had it all planned out, the dogs toilet schedule in excel, I knew exactly when she was needing a toilet an pre-empted any mess and bad habbits by just being on schedule!
@Mccann dog training
I’m wondering how can we train potty training when we are Working during the Day. I know it’s best to be present , but for those of us Who don’t work from home, I’m wondering how it can manifest in those case ? Thank you very much
How are you suppose to train a puppy when you work and are gone the majority of the day? I can’t supervise him when I’m not at home. I don’t keep him in the crate when I’m at work because it’s like 7 hours. I leave him in a small area. Idk where to start with my puppy.
Hello, good evening, I think I’m going to have a problem training my puppy to go to the bathroom, since I live on the tenth floor. What could be a good training for those conditions?
My 2 will stare at the door but they won’t do anything outside because they want to go out together and play.
How do I get on a LIVE show? I can’t seem to do it
Just followed your instructions and our puppy is now going outside! She has never done that before. She went on her pee pads all the time! Thank you!
What about at night time. Do wr crate them all night. My dog I’d use to pads at night but go outside throughout the day
What about adult pomeranians they are 6-7 years old and use peepafs but even with those they still make mess around the house . How can I get them to go outside?
thank you so very much
My 6 month old will go outside and pee and then 15 or 20 minutes after coming in, he’ll pee in the floor. He holds it all night & goes out and pees & poos. I almost feel like he is just peeing because he’s bored. I can’t figure it out.
What kind of dog is the black and white one?
I have to pick my 6 month Chorkie to put outside to potty
I have a pup that has EXACTLY the same markings and colors as that other pup with 5 Alive in the beginning. We have no idea what breed he is or what he’s going to look like as older – we’re excited to find out…. DO YOU KNOW what breed or an idea of what mix of breeds could give markings / features like those?
Please can you advise on what to do if your puppy is not fully vaccinated.
My vet has told me she cannot use the toilet outside until 2 weeks after vaccinations.
I’ve got my puppy doing all her business outside now after a couple of weeks. I just can not stop her peeing and pooping in the cage. I’ve brought a cage divider and removed blankets thinking she would stop, but it’s like she doesn’t mind standing or lying in her own business. She’s being let out in the night every 3-4 hours but I’m still be greeted by something. I just don’t know what else to try
My 6 month old toy mixed breed was doing great with potty training. Last week she was spayed. I take her out often (as I watch for sign and at points I know she will need to potty) She is either in her crate or confined in the kitchen with me. However she is having accidents. Is this normal and will pass as she recovers from surgery? (No UTI)
House breaking for my dog was much more time consuming for me rather than hard. Didn’t think about crating though so thanks for that for any future dogs I might have.

What about going to work and potty training? Tuesdays are always my longest of my spilt shifts. I’m worried about leaving my girl in her crate while I’m at work. Mind you my morning shift is only 4-5 hours max. She was doing so well but she’s started peeing and pooping inside again. She’s only 8-9weeks, so I’ll follow your potting training tactics using her crate more often.
How many weeks do they need to be before they go potty outside?
I have a 4 month old Golden Retriever. He is fully potty train. It took 1 1/2 months to potty train. Get your dog on a routine and they will follow through
My puppy goes outside and only plays then comes in and pees.
If someone could help it would be much appreciated: I got a puppy off Craigslist early January, she was 4 months old at the time and the people who had her hadn’t really worked with her much. Shes almost 8 months now and without fail everytime I get her out of the crate to potty she squats and pees everywhere. On the days that I do get her out the door (she walks on her two back legs alot) she will pee all over me or the porch before I can get her off the inclosed porch. There’s pee everywhere all the time and I’ve tried all kinds of things. She could have been out 20 minutes prior and she will without fail pee before I can get her outside. If anyone has any input that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much this is exacly what i needed !
My basset hound pup cannot understand that we want his piss outside. It is becoming mentally unraveling. We have done all of these tricks. I have been on a schedule since day 1. We get him on walks. We don’t let him drink for 2 hours before bed. I give him treats and praise him when he does go outside. He knows the bell on the back door that let’s him out. He will go ring the bell to go out. I will go and rush to the door to let him out and once the door opens he stares at me and pees all over the floor. 6 inches from the door.
I feel like I am at my wits end. He loves peeing in his crate and then sitting in it. My poor wife’s carpet is being destroyed. She is over it. It has been 8 months. We might have to give him to a friend if he can’t turn it around.
My corgi is 4 months old I’m trying to get him off puppy pads, however when he potty outside, and we come back in he ill potty again inside…i don’t understand this behavior. Sometimes we are outside for 20min he does nothing and soon as we get inside he goes…

How the heck does one go to work?😫
I’ve been watching your videos as I prepare for getting our puppy soon. Winter is fast approaching here and if we get a dumping of snow, a pup will get buried if we let it out in our backyard. For this reason, I was thinking of taking pup out front to do its business. Would this pose an issue if, say come spring/summer time, we switch to letting it out into the backyard? I don’t want to confuse the poor thing but I’m hoping when it’s older and can go out unsupervised, we can just open the patio door and let it out.
Soon to be a puppy mom, thanks for tips.
He will not go
I always wondered, how much time can a puppy be on a crate? Is it bad for them?
So what do we do when we have the dog on a consistent schedule, take them out at the appropriate times, but then the puppy will pee in the crate with no indication? I’ve been looking for her tell, but she doesn’t have one yet. The puppy in question is 13 weeks old, and again is heavily managed. We’ve even tried decreasing the crate space, taking her out every hour (it was too frequent for her, so we moved it back to every 2 hours), but again, she still hasn’t figured out the way to tell us she has to go out yet. When she does have an accident, she hates being dirty, so thankfully no bad genetics are at play. We’re at a loss!
I’m getting attached to 5-Alive from watching him all the time
Instructions unclear , pads removed . Dog poops floor.
jk 😂 great video 💪🏾
Heyyy, I had to come back here and give y’all credit because I started yesterday and kept him in the crate overnight and the next morning he went pee AND poop outside! I was shocked to say the least! Thank you so much ✨
I appreciate this video as someone who’s been trying to potty train their 5mo old puppy for the last few months but the one frustration I have with videos like these is that it assumes that we all have access to big, grassy, quiet, fenced off backyards that the dogs can run around on—of course it would be easier for you to potty train with that set up! But for those of us who live in apartments in busy, loud cities with minimal to no yard access, this adds complexity to the potty training and makes it so much harder of a process. As for me, while I do have a small, shared yard but it’s dirt and has all kinds of things on it that distracts my puppy—leaves, branches, rocks, weeds, seeds from trees, etc. Knowing that she’s at a stage where she wants to put *everything* in her mouth, we got one of those fresh grass subscriptions and have cordoned off her potty area with an x-pen. But the distractions of the city—cars and motorcycles and pedestrians going by, dogs barking, an occasional leaf blowing in the wind, my upstairs neighbors coming down to check their mail—we’re still having a hard time keeping her focused enough to do her business. Sometimes we’re taking her in and out 6x in a row, knowing that she really really has to go but the moment she’s outside, something distracts her, and she "forgets". It’s gotten to the point where we get so tired that we bring her inside and pray that she actually pees on the pad because then we’ll at least know she’s gone and we can have a break from this annoying dance. I say all of this to say: I would love to see more trainers talk about distractions during potty training, how to train around them, and what to do if you’re potty training in areas that are noisy and not grassy, as a lot of us aren’t blessed with beautiful, green, private backyards.
I love in a high rise building. How am I suppose to take her outside every time??? I don’t want her to get use to going in doors and I wish there were videos on here that that help me 😢
It’s all nice until you live on the last floor of your apartment complex and taking the dog outside in time to avoid accidents becomes almost impossible. 🥲 Any suggestion for such cases? Could I perhaps train the dog to go on the balcony first as a form of "outside", until they have learned to ask me to go out on the balcony and by then they’ll be able to hold it long enough to allow me to take them actually outside?
I’m completely against using puppy pads. Our breeder used them and our puppy still hasn’t grasped fully the idea of only going potty outside! I watch him constantly and he still manages to find a spot to pee in the house. We have caught him in the act many times and yell ‘NO’! He clearly understands he’s doing wrong but still has accidents. I’ve never had so much problems getting a puppy potty trained! Your advice is fine but it’s common sense we already exercise. You got anything else? Thanks!
I’m getting frustrated, almost want to cry because I’m trying
Unfortunately my puppy at 7 months is still primarily using her pads inside. She got used to it as a younger puppy and our winter was extremely harsh this year which prevented spending the needed time outside. Once the snow melted and since, all she wants to do is sniff and eat everything on the ground. It’s been very frustrating and I feel like it’s too late and it will be like this forever. When she does go outside it’s at the dog park (both pee and poopoo) but at home just pee.
Thanks! I’m concerned about Parvo. We don’t have a fenced yard and the only place to take her out is a place that other dog owners walk their dogs past. Is it safe to take her there?
How do I handle two puppies? I can’t leave one inside and take the other out, but taking both out leads to them just being distracted, or one peeing and the other not focusing.
I have a similar looking black lab mix I got her at 6 weeks it only took 3 days and she was house trained… Although where I live in Oregon it rains in the winter which is now.. it is muddy and nasty and I would have to give her a bath every two days… I want her to go on the puppy pads until the spring. And she does that well too but she would rather go outside.. I need a solution to wasting money on puppy pads like a washable or?
Being a "post" working, thanks so much! At what age should you actually "walk" a puppy? Seems like they eat everything! ARGH
When my 3 were little I used to use puppy pads in the hall . I also kept 2 puppy pads outside the bathroom on the landing as they went everywhere with me . I knew It was getting a bit silly when as I sat on the loo the doggies peed in cyncronisation on their pee pads opposite. Feeling a little hopeless thereafter I took them out in the garden every hour . Of course they just stared at me . I tried pretend squatting on the grass as I was obviously The Pack Leader ( not) and they would just learn from my direction . Well hell no. The neighbour thought the middle aged woman next door was bonkers. So with a heavy heart it was back to puppy pads for life . RIP FLO , BETTY . Winnie ex puppy farm girl hanging on . Misses the puppy pads every time these days. So that’s £60 monthly for 15 years!
I’ve had my boy 71 days and he still won’t show a clear sign, like going to the door! But the biggest problem is that this dude had ZERO training before he came to me, and I got him at just about 4-1/2 months old.
But I have noticed his annoying me by biting with zoomies is a pretty clear indicator that he needs to go out, this has happened every time before an accident. So I listen to that wild behavior type communication, as well as taking him out after every meal, after all play times and training sessions, after a nap, first thing in the morning and last thing before bed. So I’m catching him most times, we’re having very few accidents now. He’s been sleeping though the night without crying since about 2 weeks after we got him, with zero accidents, that I’m most grateful for! 🤣 So I know I so totally own the accidents that happen now, becuase it’s always whenever those rules aren’t strict followed by the rest of my family. Damn teenagers 🙄 😂
I just wish he’d ring bells we have hanging at the door we take him out through to go to his spot to do his business, our previous dog taught himself that neat trick!! I was hoping hearing them ring every time we go out that he would make the correlation and get it, but that’s not been the case just yet… I’m still holding out hope 🤞
But during the bad snow storm he wouldn’t go out, he’s a very short haired tiny guy who we strongly believe is mostly Miniature Pinscher who came from Texas, so he absolutely hates the cold, besides the snow was taller than he was 🤣 What I did was set up a temporary spot, out in my unheated garage and right in front of the garage door, so it still was cold and had the scent of being outside, but without actually being outside. He understood immediately and after a day he transferred back to going outside like a champ! I didn’t want to confuse him but I needed not to have those accidents inside and ruin all the work we had done.
Big Question!! How to stop barking ? 5 adult pomeranians rescued they bark at everything!! Even if you go to the bathroom or just get a drink. We have tried… bark collar no shock, spray bottle, shaking a can long walks the barking just doesn’t stop . PLEASE HELP!!
