Can I use the broth as liquid base if I make homemade food for my dogs?

  20. @sissyhaskell6939 on September 30, 2025 at 7:12 pm

I make it in the Instant Pot. Adding chunks of Celery, carrots plus Turmeric and Ginger and cook it for 3 hours! Fill in 8 oz containers and freeze. When I use it the fat is a solid mass on top and I scoop it right up when the broth starts thawing.

  21. @HeyyAdie on September 30, 2025 at 7:15 pm

Could you put the Chicken Feet in an Instant Pot? OR does it have to cook low and slow?

  28. @E-sizzle1 on September 30, 2025 at 7:21 pm

If you leave chicken bones in the crock pot for 48 hours, you’re able to smush them with your fingers- do you think if you blend the bones to a puree it’s safe to give your pets? I see people do it on Reddit but am unsure how I feel about it yet

  29. @Organized_byGigi on September 30, 2025 at 7:21 pm

  43. @pnkpanther509 on September 30, 2025 at 7:38 pm

Thought experiment: you discussed the reason for making it yourself is because prices are so high and you can make it for less. You then mention the main place you shop is Whole Foods. Whole Foods is owned by Amazon. Amazon is owned by investors that are the top 1% like Bezos and Musk. They are the reason the prices are so high. So you are supporting the top 1% who are causing high prices. At least Shop and support local family owned companies for your bones.

this is where costco rotisserie chicken really shines. get two of them. $5 a piece so $10. Use the meat however you want. buy itself .. in salads, for tacos whatever. when you are done .. in an instapot … put 6 cups of water and the bones of one chicken …pressure cook on high for 2 hours… let it naturally vent. let it cool and skim it or dont’ skim it… and freeze in blocks (silicone ones work really well).. make sure this stock has no garlic and no onions. once the block freeeze put them in ziplock bags labeled them dog stock. do the same thing for the other chicken carcass except put in onions, garlic, celery, carrots and make "human broth" store the same way. lable human broth. Dog CANNOT have onions or garlic hence the separation. Now everyone is upper happy the dogs and the humans. $10 bucks make 12 cups of stock. quite a bit.

I started to cook a bone broth and freeze it for my dog this summer because of heat waves. I’m cooking 2nd batch rn this time with apple cider vinegar also will try to blend a bit with some spinach cause my dog is the type that really dislikes any veggies so it may be great idea to sneak some into his diet. ALSO with the last batch since bone broth is extremely healthy for humans as well I put like two broth cubes into pasta sauce I was making and I think it works amazingly well! I was thinking of making separate batches for us but the bland ones actually work too since you season your sauces anyway.

  46. @Carolann-g2k on September 30, 2025 at 7:39 pm

You started off with chicken feet so where did those big bones come from? I am confused.

  47. @johnlam3037 on September 30, 2025 at 7:40 pm

If you want cheap bones, go to an Asian Market. Example: Chicken feet, $1.99 a lb, or pay $8 a lb, at Whole Foods or CUB. Giant frozen leg quarters in a bag. 8 to 10 pieces for around $6. I like to feed them to my rotties as an afternoon treat. They love it. Bones & all. You can always blanch it for 10 min. to clean out the blood & impurities in the meat & bones, b4 actually making the stock. For my stock, I would generally spend around $10 for all the bones I need (neck bones, marrow bones, chicken feet for collagen). I put the stock into every full meal they eat. For their water bowl, I would mix 1/2 stock, 1/2 water. No salt, No seasoning.
