Reviewing the Top Interactive Cat Toys!

Reviewing the Top Interactive Cat Toys!

I set out to review the top interactive cat toys on Amazon and Chewy to point you in the right direction. Granted, I’m a pretty harsh critic – but it took a LOT of digging to find good toys. Many cat guardians know that cats are underrepresented in the pet industry, and the only way to change that is to make your voice heard.

What are some of your cat’s favorite toys? And what things frustrate you about them?

I came here because I realized that all cat wands are trash.

Cat snatch toy? ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ™„ Not a nice reaction. Good grief.

  3. @smolderbreath3238 on April 6, 2025 at 4:03 am

Those elastic toys are no joke, one of my cats now has PTSD of those things, Cat A had in mouth and let go, Cat B got elastic-whip smacked in the face and hasn’t trusted them since, if somebody makes the motion of swooshing the toy or somebody puts a rubberband over a food item, the noise scares him now and he flees.
This string toy product came from the Cat Lady Box brand.

My cat loved to play fetch with a small rope, and we played ‘sock hockey’ between two boxes. Now that she is two she wants more sophisticated toys. I have a laser (her favorite at night), and four wand toys in the closet. Since it became hot here, her favorite is laying on her back and batting a lightweight ball back to me. She is a funny Tuxedo.

I make my own cat toys. I think it’s fun๐Ÿ˜ I’ve made several types of "cat dancers." They are easy to make and look very vibrant. I have attached double-twisted flower wire to one end of a stick and to the other end of the flower wire I have attached e.g. a small piece of cardboard, a thick piece of fabric that I cut fringes into, a toy mouse, some feathers, a plush "worm", etc. You have to make sure that the flower wire is tightened around the toy and that the ends are long enough that they can be twisted a long way back, up the flower wire again, so that the cat does not get hurt on the pointed ends.

7:12 If it was "powerful" like they claim, Casper would have already been right in front of you trying to get the toy away from you. That’s what happens when I get the same bananas in your video (knockoffs don’t work). My cats are often seen carrying their bananas around – even months after getting them. ๐Ÿ˜…

My cats only like 100% pure catnip – not that other stuff. It has zero effect on them. Idk why companies even bother with it. Maybe some cats like it? ๐Ÿค”

My catโ€™s FAVE wand, is the Dollar Tree one

  8. @vanillacoke4517 on April 6, 2025 at 4:06 am

My catโ€™s all time favourite toy always been a shoe lace with a tightly folded thin plastic bag attached to itโ€™s end. The only thing we bought from a store was a silicone worm infused with catnip that our cat loves to chew on

With that third one, I modified it with some fishing leader to make the string longer. I also use different toys on the end. And I don’t like that you can’t use the wand in a shortened position.

A simple nylon string connected to a stick has always been the most effective toy for every single cat in my life.

  14. @lovecatssw on April 6, 2025 at 4:17 am

Try the cat dancer!!! It looks like a piece of garbage, but my cat loves it!!!

  15. @melinagraves1076 on April 6, 2025 at 4:20 am

The Jackson galaxy wand I found at Ollieโ€™s was my favorite wand for 3 years and it FINALLY broke after so much abuse. I still think about that wand and how it was super customizable

  16. @MehAwake on April 6, 2025 at 4:21 am

Can someone please help me with play for a cat that is constantly distracted and older (may have arthritis). When she was younger, she loved the laser and wand. Now she just walks off randomly.

  18. @numcadam405 on April 6, 2025 at 4:23 am

The extendable one was a game changer for me because I use a powered wheelchair and my three-month-old kitten was Just attached to the short wands and not the toy at the end of it so the extendable thing was great. Thank you Jackson!

  19. @Yavanna79 on April 6, 2025 at 4:24 am

I used to have my brother’s cats in care (not anymore, he gave them up, there were many reasons) and I bought a few toys for them myself and when I looked at the offer, I wanted to find primarily safe and still meaningful options. That is, the size of the toy and that the parts in it are not easily detached and swallowed. I didn’t want the cats to choke on anything while playing. Or have other problems. So I bought quite a few things. And sometimes it seemed that the most enjoyable thing for the cats to play with was a cardboard box (which we had lying around the apartment empty after moving) or just plain paper balls. Although I didn’t leave them lying around after playing, either, because they would eat them.
Plus, I noticed that the smaller the cardboard box, the more eager the cats were to try to squeeze into it.
And I had to be careful with the food, as one or both cats had problems with grain-containing foods. Luckily, I found grain-free cat food at a relatively affordable price, and the cats were happy too. This was and is still available in wet and dry options, which I’m happy about. I miss those two fur balls, but I can’t take in or take care of cats or dogs for long periods of time, because I’m allergic to cats and dogs (I can be in the same room with cats and dogs for a while without symptoms, but when I can’t stand not being petted and I can manage for a few days with allergy medication, but they are not useful in the long run). And so at least I don’t get any life-threatening symptoms, mainly allergic rhinitis, some skin symptoms if a cat/dog licks me and eye symptoms. It still doesn’t stop me from loving cats and dogs and I’m more of a cat person myself, while my husband is a dog person, but he still doesn’t hate cats either. ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. @cathleenwedlake4705 on April 6, 2025 at 4:25 am

My cat won’t play interactively. I present the toy to play with him. As soon as he catches it, he keeps it and we are done. That’s it. How long? No more than 5 minutes. ๐Ÿ™„

  21. @yarra352 on April 6, 2025 at 4:29 am

I don’t fully agree with you on the wand toys. I think they are great for ground play for especially with kittens. I find I can better make the unpredictable moves with my wrist. The wand just need to have a proper length.

  22. @cooltraineraaron4618 on April 6, 2025 at 4:30 am

    0:35
I was going to pipe up and say, "Well, the ‘interactive’ toy is one that the CAT interacts with".

….but that’s just any toy the cat likes XD
    You are totally right!

  23. @Irishwabbit59 on April 6, 2025 at 4:31 am

A horse whip used for round pen training ( not used on horse) is a long durable tool able to be used for these kind of toys by attaching string and toy

  24. @ashleybuffa7971 on April 6, 2025 at 4:32 am

We adopted a very shy 9 month old female tuxedo kitty 3.5 weeks ago. Each day is a big step for her so far and itโ€™s been amazing. Shes wonโ€™t let you pet her downstairs, only play with her. But upstairs no matter what room, she craves attention/petting/snuggling. Her wand toy with feathers is by far her favorite. It was the first toy we got her. She carries it EVERYWHERE with her! She even brings it into our bed every morning ๐Ÿ˜‚

  25. @sameli1183 on April 6, 2025 at 4:33 am

So I do actually have that cheap worm on a string toy and I’ve had it for 3 years and it surprisingly held up well. My cat loves it. The one thing is that the worms themselves do lose the fuzzy hair eventually, it can fall off, but my cat isn’t one who eats it and they give you like 5 worms. I do love the length of the wand and the fact it’s not too weighty, like those big metal wands. (I tried on of those once, not realizing the issue, and I accidentally hit my cat- he was okay, but it obviously scared him.)

  26. @barbaramilbradt2188 on April 6, 2025 at 4:33 am

Your cats are probably all behind the couch eating feathers and foil ribbons, lol. But I know you wouldn’t allow that!

  27. @kCupz_Life_n_Photos on April 6, 2025 at 4:34 am

I agree that most of those toys seemed like garbage. My cat Vesper seems to disagree about the cat charmer you had at the end. If I try to bring it out he just turns around ๐Ÿ˜‚.

  28. @JacksonGalaxy on April 6, 2025 at 4:38 am

I know, friends, I sound sometimes like the grouch who stole playtime lol. Not so! I may be just a wee bit picky about the toys themselves, but playtime rocks! so tell me..whatโ€™s your catโ€™s fave toys?? โคโคPLAY WITH YOUR CAT!

  29. @lindas.1751 on April 6, 2025 at 4:38 am

At 17:01, the Frisco toy, is in fact a favorite of a cat who refuses any other toy. I am a decades-long cat owner and sometime foster here. We took in a pair of adult cats when our Veterinarian could find no other option for them. One of them remains with us, but she hasn’t been at all interested in integrating into the clowder, and won’t join in playtime. But if I take her into a room by herself, and begin dancing the Frisco feather toy around with her, she begins to leap and chase. I agree SHE probably wonders about the ribbon "tail" situation, but it seems to flutter enough to catch her interest. In addition, the Frisco toys are, though flimsy, pretty inexpensive. Particularly inexpensive compared to lots of higher tech toys. I’m pretty hard on toys, too, having a lot of experience entertaining finicky cats or high energy cats. But I’ll give the Frisco toy at least a B+ because it makes "Emma" a little bit happier.

  30. @damienb8594 on April 6, 2025 at 4:41 am

How about those retractable fishing rod toys with a target on the end, but a bit of fine bendy wire instead of a string? The fishing rods I’ve seen are a good length but the wire concerns me a bit

  31. @KA-bl1ht on April 6, 2025 at 4:42 am

2024 and they can’t come up with a CAT DRONE that actually works๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿฆโ“there is one Go go bird, but is so noisy and not for interiors. Also the Potaroma flapping bird and the petlibro are super loud and strident… I’m giving up soon๐Ÿ˜ค.

As soon as I have it I will record a video of my cat playing with a toy that I got from anCactual pet shop that caters to cats as well as some other animals but it is called Mad cat and it has shop cats. I think you will love this toy And how I play with her

  36. @hunterbergman9048 on April 6, 2025 at 4:48 am

So wait, with string/rope toys, how do they complete the "kill" cycle like bring it back to their "den" to "eat"

  37. @cupidsbliss on April 6, 2025 at 4:48 am

im so glad my cat adores fetch because his absolute favorite toy is a stuffed plush cheese on the world’s tiniest wand so instead of filleting my fingers ( because he has done that by accident ) i can just… throw the whole stick & wand across the room for him to chase and bring back to me. by "bring back to me" i mean drop it a foot away from me and look up like O^O?

  38. @frankorienti9408 on April 6, 2025 at 4:49 am

I got a cat from my neighbor because she just Did Not like him much amd always stayed outside, well she came over and is my shadow! Now, she is on the young side and is aSomethingEnergy! She Loves me so much she is Always by my side. I need some kind of toy to help keep her busy at night because she wakes me up during the night to go hangout in the livingroom and play ๐Ÿ˜….

My cat loves the worm toy by Pet Fit! She tears across the room for it. However, the wand attachment is terrible. I need a replacement wand so she doesn’t run off with half the wand when she catches her prey. ๐Ÿ˜…

  40. @drakkina08 on April 6, 2025 at 4:53 am

So laser pointer is ok if a human is controlling it? My fav toy we bought was a three in one, laser, fishing rod with three different toys for end and bird call sounds.

  41. @LeighGallagher-hc4pn on April 6, 2025 at 4:54 am

one of my cats came over and laid in my keybored while I was watching this lol.

  42. @susantrott3338 on April 6, 2025 at 4:55 am

My cats’ favorite toy is something I "invented" years ago with my swimsuit company. We made spaghetti straps by the meter, and there were always left overs. We called them Silly Stringz, and they were fabric covered 3/8" wide elastic straps that were 60" long. They can be flung, dragged, and tied to something like a wand. They are strong and the cats like playing tug of war. We couldn’t get any traction from vets at all. But we have them at home, and we have 8 cats that make up new games with the straps.

This was too cute this morning. One of our new kitties likes a feather wand toy. She tapped my hand like she was expecting a treat, then went and tapped the feather toy to show me she wanted me to play with her! Such a smarty kitty! Lol

best toy ever is a mini fishing pole I’ve been using one for 26 years

This video made me realise that the wand toy I have for my cat kinda sucks D: time for an upgrade! Fortunately she loves the ball toys I’ve got, I toss them down the hallway and she chases them. She doesn’t bring them back to me though so I have to run up and down the hallway too XD

  48. @DaffPet on April 6, 2025 at 5:00 am

I LOVE that you are honest! If Iโ€™m going to spend time, money and energy on toys playing with my cat, I want them to have a fulfilling and happy time! Keep giving reviews the way you do! Thank you for helping all of us do our best for our animals!
