My son is Blind and he has service animal and he always has that on when working with harness it’s to keep his dog on his pace good advice 😂

  6. @bamagolds on December 17, 2024 at 4:29 pm

Began with GL under Joel’s advice. Rolled around on the ground, hated it. Switched to Sprenger under Garret. Don’t mind wearing.

  7. @hqgirl567 on December 17, 2024 at 4:31 pm

I mean I would only use it for a service dog use but ur right it is garbage

    Hypocrite.

Ever since I got a slip lead my Boerbull is so much better. Luckily hes well socialized.

  10. @dailychaos8 on December 17, 2024 at 4:33 pm

My prong collar doesn’t work on my rescue. She doesn’t care how much pain she’s in if she suddenly sees a deer she doesn’t back down.

  11. @jamesfuller8181 on December 17, 2024 at 4:33 pm

that is not how a gentle leader is supposed to be used.

I have 2 Euro Dobermans. I got a 3mm Herm Sprenger for them both. Male is 115, and female is 95. I felt that the 3mm would be best for them. Was I wrong?

  17. @libravore on December 17, 2024 at 4:46 pm

This product is animal friendly. It was tested on interns.

  18. @troyater1609 on December 17, 2024 at 4:48 pm

For an enthusiastic high conference dog i completely agree. For skidish dogs, in my limited experience, it is a much better tool than a prong colar. Ive found that the prong does work to assist in obedience training and gets passable results, it can make the internal reaction worse. when used correctly, not in the same was as a prong, the leader can pull them out of the fear tunnel vision much better. Obedience comes easier after that as they can actively make choices rather than do the specific response to specific stimulation.

  19. @danielirving7209 on December 17, 2024 at 4:48 pm

    Love this guy.

  20. @1827Beethoven on December 17, 2024 at 4:50 pm

I agree with him on some things but, what he’s saying here is garbage. He uses a prong collar, which can do severe trachea damage. A reason why they are banned in over 6 countries. If you can’t teach your dog to walk nicely on a lead without metal prongs then you’re doing something wrong. You want to argue that head haltis are painful or do neck damage, yet you support prong collars, totally hypocritical.

  21. @sarahstednick4884 on December 17, 2024 at 4:52 pm

I had a wonderful sweet dog who I first trained with my other dog with a prong colar. It worked for the one, but the other, it seemed not to suit his sweet dimenor. The other, Cuda, was a very smart border collie/pit who liked to gently herd me in the direction he wanted to go. The gentle leader kept him from doing that. It’s not the tool. It’s how you use it.

  22. @tonifonseca9178 on December 17, 2024 at 4:54 pm

Yes agree my dog thru himself too the ground to get out of scraped his face

  23. @IflyRaptors on December 17, 2024 at 4:54 pm

As a dog trainer, this is the only guy I’ve seen on media or social media that actually knows what hes talking about every time. He knows his shit very well, obviously very experienced. cant say that about most the online dog trainers.

  24. @benpituch1750 on December 17, 2024 at 4:54 pm

People who use those are the same people scolding you for using a prong collar

  25. @Suedepants100 on December 17, 2024 at 4:56 pm

So many people at my work (doggy daycare and vet clinic) have gentle leaders and I hate them. Rather than take the time to train their dogs they use these. So many of the dogs pull and suck at walking on a leash, and none of the owners care.

  26. @flightofone on December 17, 2024 at 4:57 pm

  27. @carjassf on December 17, 2024 at 4:58 pm

Do you want a d9g or a cammel or a horse.
Cus thats what yiu gping to get

  28. @CherylWood-dd7zm on December 17, 2024 at 4:58 pm

I had a vet lecture me about the "evils" of prong collars and said "real trainers don’t use them" and suggested the gentle leader. That was the last time we saw him.

  29. @jefracastro1935 on December 17, 2024 at 4:59 pm

Personally my dog wouldn’t like that thing 😂

  30. @calebcampbell7166 on December 17, 2024 at 5:00 pm

Gentle leaders are a great training tool awesome for training service dogs. It’s directional nose. You have to first train them loose leash walking then you can use a gentle leader to encourage slight pressure and when they heal, it helps them pay attention more.

  31. @Thesupperals on December 17, 2024 at 5:03 pm

Just get a harness leash. None of those choker things.

  32. @barbkelly9604 on December 17, 2024 at 5:03 pm

I’ve used a gentle leader for over 20 years and they’re wonderful. Your dog should be walking at your side and you shouldn’t be yanking. I’ve also owned horses for 30 years and, no, a halter isn’t cruel… same idea. In all fairness, why don’t you put that Herm Sprenger on your buddy Austin and give that a yank. It’s NEVER a one size fits all when it comes to animals or training.

  33. @lulu52461 on December 17, 2024 at 5:04 pm

Haha! Not sure where or what made you think you can break your dog’s neck using the gentle leader..that’s BS!

  34. @leegrass6954 on December 17, 2024 at 5:04 pm

I subscribe wholeheartedly —get all that you do. I’m a trainer too— since 1980– competition level too—great success! Not intending to be derogatory, but—I’ve been using Gentle Leaders on dogs ever since Premier came out with them. (They are now made by Pet Safe). I’ve saved many dogs lives using this tool. Never once broke a dogs neck. I suppose you could put a dent in their nose if you pop hard enough, but it’s a game changer. They are attitude adjusters of the highest level. That and e-collar are the two best tools ever for training hard to handle dogs.

  35. @lynnayhogg2147 on December 17, 2024 at 5:06 pm

I dont understand why people would use a gentle lead when you could just train them loose leash walking. Gentle lead probably 10x faster to teach them not to pull, but you can accomplish the same effect with patience and effort. 🤷‍♀️

  36. @wronin8244 on December 17, 2024 at 5:07 pm

You are supposed to use it with two leashes, a shorter one as the main leash and a bit longer one on the leader so the dog will correct itself and won’t snap their neck you can also let go of the second leash if your dog was to jump forward. It’s just a tool use it correctly and it can help

  37. @girrrlychild on December 17, 2024 at 5:08 pm

I tried one on my now 11 year old golden retriever mix when she was around a year old. She was a puller but only straight ahead (not a dog that bounced around). She would not walk with it on, just roll around and try to get it off. It left marks on her face. The answer for her ended up being a harness that would squeeze her when she pulled for walks, and letting her run on trails with me on a bike so she could go fast and pull sometimes without hurting anyone. Some dogs just need that.

  38. @KellieMcNutt on December 17, 2024 at 5:08 pm

I literally can’t walk my dog without one. It is a physical impossibility for me. I weigh 110 pounds he weighs 167 pounds. I’m am covered in scars from walking him. He would see something he thinks is interesting and bam I’m being dragged on the asphalt covered in road rash!

  39. @jesus_reigns on December 17, 2024 at 5:08 pm

Lol and I’ve followed beckman’s dog training who has really good leash reactivity tips and idk who to believe now! Luckily I was planning to use a prong collar anyway.

  40. @alvarezgamers on December 17, 2024 at 5:09 pm

Your tone in this one was wild. Lol 😂

  41. @0292-q3l on December 17, 2024 at 5:11 pm

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a gentle leader haha!, most dogs are calmer on a gentle leader, i have been using a gentle leader on new pups for years, the fact that it sits behind the ears and above the snout simulates a mother’s grab which instantly calms a dog.

Can confirm gentle leaders work perfectly fine, ive had no dogs with a broken neck. Don’t listen to what people say, try and test for yourself. You must get your dog used to a gentle leader for it to be effective. Its definitely not gonna break your dogs neck.

  42. @0072003dan on December 17, 2024 at 5:12 pm

For the “germs springers” do the prongs hurt the dog?

  43. @faithcastillo9597 on December 17, 2024 at 5:14 pm

I use a head halter to walk our big dog. Without it, I can’t walk him. He’s strong enough to pull me out of my wheelchair, and has done so in the past. I’ll stick with the Halti head halter.

  44. @fifamaniac04 on December 17, 2024 at 5:15 pm

What about bridles? Like what horses use?

  45. @Majora96 on December 17, 2024 at 5:18 pm

I have two super super energetic hunting dogs. A normal leash doesn’t work well. Been using a gentle lead for years and it works well, and no necks snapped either.

  46. @Tamara-id1pe on December 17, 2024 at 5:18 pm

We have used halters with horses for years without breaking their necks

  47. @dazz180 on December 17, 2024 at 5:20 pm

What size herms for a Dutch shepherd would you recommend

  48. @saylesswithmonique on December 17, 2024 at 5:21 pm

Need advice for the next five days: we are dog sitting for a friend. He’s a 95 pound golden retriever with a gentle lead and pulls really hard. I don’t want to take over like he is my dog and still want to respect what my friend asks and using the gentle lead. What do we do for the next five days??

  49. @JamesMq on December 17, 2024 at 5:23 pm

Want a dog ? before buying watch this guy !!

  50. @RuggedRue on December 17, 2024 at 5:23 pm

The issue is Gentle Leaders are advertised to “stop pulling” when in reality they shouldn’t be used on a dog who pulls period.. On an already leash trained dog? Sure. They’re commonly used in service dog work and great for that.

It’s not a bad tool, but it shouldn’t be used to stop pulling.
