Impact Crate vs Gunner Kennel – Best dog crates review

Impact Crate vs Gunner Kennel – Best dog crates review

Which is the best dog crate? The Impact Collapsible Crate and the Gunner G1 are both premium dog crates that serve very different scopes of the market. The are very often compared to each other though in reality serve very different use cases. This Impact Collapsible Crate was used to import a dog to Australia and has been my dogs resting place within my home for many years now. The collapsible function means that it has been fantastic to use when we travel though it isn’t a crate that I would use to keep my dog safe within a vehicle. The gunner G1 is crash tested and I use it mainly when there is a real chance that my dog could be in danger from a vehicle rollover or collision like on the back of a quadbike or ATV while hunting.

This brings back a lot of personal trauma…
I was trapped in one of these for like almost an entire day while my owner was tripping on acid.

My Vizsla chewed through the Gunner door in less then a week. It’s just plastic and has lips for dogs to get a grip to chew, wish Gunner offered a metal liner for the door like some other companies. Was hoping impact crate would work well since it collapses for travel, doesn’t sound good from your review. So far only solid heavy metal commercial style kennels work for my dog.

Too bad they are both wayyyyy over priced smh. Worthless kennel companies taking advantage of dipsticks lol

I have both. The Gunner is great but the Large has the same interior dimensions as the impact intermediate but is so big it won’t fit in any SUV or even through the house door. So it spent extra time in truck bed until weathered. It’s also a pain to move around.

The impact is easy to move around and significantly smaller externally.

My solution is I use a Ruffland in the truck. Fits in back seat. Large is same size as Impact intermediate. And the Intermediate Impact is used in the house, carried into hotels or in the RV. The Gunner goes unused. I have the fan and winter cover for the gunner and Ruffland.

Have you tried the Variocage or TransK9 crates? Can’t decide between those and the gunner for my vehicle…

Wish one would be best for a heavy chewer?

  7. @jarrodlyerly1075 on March 17, 2025 at 1:35 am

I just wish the Gunnar came bigger than large.. 40” long isn’t long enough for my malinois.. impact has 42” and 48”

  8. @margaretrichmond3887 on March 17, 2025 at 1:36 am

Thanks. I’ll look at the gunner brand

I know this is an older video, but I’m looking for a travel kennel for my suv for my poodle and training demo dogs, and I liked that the impact also offers a grooming mat for the top. It’s going to be in the car & hotels for grooming competition. I have other kennels for the home.

I need a big crate for my Corso that I can strap into my truck. Wish the gunner was bigger internally.

I was torn on which to pick, and I unfortunately returned the Gunner kennel. Maybe I got the wrong size as I felt the Gunner Kennel didn’t provide enough ventilation and it’s to confined for the use of a home kennel.-. I bought the true size for my dog’s weight and height and felt it was still too confined. Impact kennel for Home use – I did upsize to give him more room. My Mal was far more comfortable in the impact kennel and I felt he was more relaxed instead of trying to dig his way out, drooling and obsessively barking. My Mal is a very obedient working dog and is used to being crated. Maybe I need to upsize on the Gunner Kennel. After hearing your information, I wouldn’t mind trying the Gunner kennel again for transport purposes only. During Transport /Airplane will this kennel get enough ventilation, I worry about heat stroke as this kennel is thick and insulated ( not a negative- very well constructed) does it draw in the heat?. Just wanted to share my thoughts. This is a great video and great Highlights on each kennel! Thank you Pat for sharing the information – I feel I might try again

We have a big Impact crate for our Great Dane. It’s bloody heavy but we’re happy with it.

  23. @MarcusStarksPixels on March 17, 2025 at 1:50 am

I subscribe because of that fire intro music

  24. @MrJol420 on March 17, 2025 at 1:52 am

Thanks man. I used your review. Ended up with the gunner. I just moved across the pond from the states to eu. The fact the gunner crate comes in half i think SHOULD BE HIGHLIGHTED. When I’m home I take it in half and the dog loves it. He’s not into the cave thing some dogs are. And its so easy to put back together. We bring it it on the interrail, I’ve traveled many hours in a train and he was asleep the whole time. Its perfect I can really feel comfyerbal bringing him anywhere..I havent go back to the states to visit but one day we will and the crate will come and he’ll be so used to it by then I’m sure it’ll ease his flying anxiety.

  25. @Neil-ru4zs on March 17, 2025 at 1:52 am

The gunner wouldn’t keep my dog contained so I’m looking into the impact. It looks much stronger

  26. @RWM85 on March 17, 2025 at 1:53 am

Solitary Confinement. There’s a reason why these are illegal in other countries.

  27. @JLB276 on March 17, 2025 at 1:53 am

What is the other crate that is crash tested? Gunner and what?

  28. @cindyspencer6022 on March 17, 2025 at 1:54 am

Im considering one of these, however as a female a 40 lb crate to move around is challenging.

  29. @Llquiquell on March 17, 2025 at 2:04 am

Literally no reason why you should need one of those

  30. @teresamontoya3350 on March 17, 2025 at 2:05 am

  31. @vspd303 on March 17, 2025 at 2:05 am

  33. @jrambo7495 on March 17, 2025 at 2:07 am

I want the Gunner but I have hernia mesh in three places and that Gunner would rip them all in one go! There’s an identical crate to the impact for way cheaper and it’s the exact same product!

  34. @Blackwatercowboy1 on March 17, 2025 at 2:09 am

How do they handle the heat? I’ve seen fans for the gunners and wasn’t sure what temperature they can handle safely with the dog not getting too hot? Any ideas?

  36. @ashnorwood4766 on March 17, 2025 at 2:11 am

You ain’t seen no dog get out the impact crate 😂

  37. @dianabak9100 on March 17, 2025 at 2:14 am

A Mal can fit in a medium for traveling short distances. My 55 pound dog is in an intermediate comfortably and I would go up to 65 in that. Medium up to 45 imo

  38. @hawnma8083 on March 17, 2025 at 2:14 am

Thank you for a great review. I was given a gunner kennel and a GSP to go with it. Owner couldn’t keep her. But I was considering getting the Impact crate instead and getting rid of the gunner because I wanted something more compact and easy to transport. However, I’m gonna keep the Gunner for quality and efficiency.

  39. @FoundationMerch on March 17, 2025 at 2:14 am

    Welch Estates

  40. @The_VANtastic_Pack on March 17, 2025 at 2:18 am

Good point on the sound issue. I didn’t think of that. We’re looking into crates for our pick up truck as well as our campervan. The impact crate would probably be noisy when the dog is in it. I remember when we had a house how my dogs wagging tails would make a lot of noise on the metal bars and I’m sensitive to sounds so we might go the route of the gunner kennels.
But the impact collapsible crates are pretty cool too.

  43. @noah_hansen on March 17, 2025 at 2:20 am

Well put together video! When I’m older I plan on getting a Malinois (first thing I’ll do is get it trained) and this video is great for what crate I want to get.

    Very helpful review

  45. @jordbjor1 on March 17, 2025 at 2:22 am

    Australian reviews are better 😆

  46. @travismcdougall1599 on March 17, 2025 at 2:23 am

Gunner are impossible to deal with from Australia. Won’t ship, won’t help, won’t do anything outside of the US

  47. @rebeccaperrin7672 on March 17, 2025 at 2:23 am

    Thanks, super helpful!

  48. @6botty on March 17, 2025 at 2:24 am

Impact could coat the metal with silicone for noise

  49. @theoriginalwaldo on March 17, 2025 at 2:24 am

Yeah I was literally just about to buy the impact until I saw how loud that was. My dog cannot stand loud noises so thanks man I’ll be investing in gunner
