Freeze dried dog food is expensive! Commercial dog food is full of low-quality ingredients, contaminants and all sorts of things that are bad for your dog. IMHO Need to add more meat, the recipe is lacking protein. I have been making a mix for over 20 yrs without the meat added then add a large scoop of the mix to the bowl. (Feed raw) I just started to FB dry which take a lot of hours but worth not having to freeze the mix. Agree if purchasing your meat from a grocery store I too would cook it to be safe.

Im still learning here. But can you feed this to them in the dried form to replace kibble? Have you tried adding probiotics?. Fish oil?. Or a multivitamin/mineral blend? Yogurt?

Hi somebody can help me 🙏, I just bought a freeze dryer but is from China (Im in Chile and shipping from the US is to high) the thing is that I have hear that in harvest right you can take the rack out of the machine, In my machine you can not and it is connected to heaters, so the cicle is not automatic and you can customize, but it goes from default from -40F to 135F so its worm! But from i have watch in some videos the harvest right machine the trais are freezing when the drying cicle ands! 🤷🏻‍♂️ and that is one question, why the differenc? Thank you

My lab mix dog died and my white shepherd got very sick after eating contaminated IAMS dog food. A few years later my shepherd got brain cancer. The first time I contacted IAMS they admitted that the same thing happened to many dogs in our area. The second time I called them they said they were not responsible after the package has been opened. I will never feed my dogs or cats commercial dog food again. Thank you for making this video. Yes, it takes time and effort to make your own pet food and you need to research your pet’s needs but it is so worth it.

  26. @carterhowell1570 on October 15, 2025 at 7:55 pm

I make my dogs food an freeze dry batches whenever we plan a camping trip or when we’ll plan on using it. My recipe is ever changing but its about 40% meat (mostly chicken), 40% fruits and veggies (whatever we can get from our garden or buy if needed), and 20% rice. I cook it all in one big pot and blend it up. When I freeze dry it I cook the meat first and then let it completely cool to then remove any rendered fat and then cook everything together like normal.

Lol, I’ve I feed my dog canned corn it just ends up all over the yard! 😂

  28. @conishkee on October 15, 2025 at 7:56 pm

I do not have, nor can I afford a Freeze-Dried machine, although it seems like a pretty cool tool to have. I love the recipe and all the ingredients (strawberries, too, Yum!) you used in yours, but I used ground turkey and ground beef. I plan to dehydrate it using my jerky gun. I also ordered and received from Amazon the Balance-It supplemental powder. I just have to figure out how much to put in since I made a big batch. Additionally, I made the chicken treats and after 14 hours of dehydrating them, they came out wonderful and my pups LOVED them! I would never have thought to include black beans, lentils and broccoli; but I also included pureed carrots and, of course, the sweet potatoes. This will be packed with flavor and my pups will be getting the best of the best! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful recipe and have a good day! (Dang, this was long, WHEW!!) 😅

How long can be preserved the food

  30. @ryany6288 on October 15, 2025 at 7:58 pm

Feeding your dog uncooked salmon can make them very sick. Raw and undercooked salmon can contain a parasite known to cause salmon poisoning disease, which can be fatal for dogs if left untreated. – from PetMD —so good on you for cooking.

  31. @janabarton8511 on October 15, 2025 at 8:02 pm

    why CORN?

  32. @anysep3361 on October 15, 2025 at 8:03 pm

This was great and informative! I laughed a little at the precision of water added to the FD food😂. Don’t feel that’s necessary, I’m sure dogs don’t mind if it’s a little too wet without weighing the water. Great video, and your little pup is adorable😍

I’m sure anything that you make fresh is better than the stuff that we buy. But when I was looking up dog food recipe recipes it did say not to use any kind of smoked meat or fish. There’s always contradicting information out there one place says there’s nothing wrong with feeding avocado to dogs. Oprah‘s vet said it’s fine other people say it’s toxic years ago they used to say give your dog garlic and EE toward all fleas. Everybody did it now they say garlic is toxic. There’s so many things they say are toxic today that you become afraid to even feed your dog. There are at least 10 dog foods out there that use garlic and they say it’s because it’s good for their digestive health. So it’s really confusing to know what to do. But I cook my dog dog food. It takes me a couple of hours and I’m thinking about trying to freeze dry a load of it just in case in Florida when we have our hurricanes, I wouldn’t have to worry about if the freezer went bad I would have the ability to just rehydrate it for them. So thanks for the video. It’s very encouraging. I watched your other one from four years ago as well And that was took you a long time to do. So hoping you have streamlined your process to make your life a little easier.

When I make my dog food, I start out with two pots. One is for the vegetables. One is for the meat while the meat is cooking. I begin adding the vegetables to a pot with a little bit of oil in it. You could just use water if you want to. You could either sauté these like I do or you could steam them. I start with the vegetables that take the longest to cook like carrots, and string beans, I slowly start adding other things like the broccoli the cauliflower, the zucchini, the squash, which go in closer to the end because they cook very quickly. The spinach is last I throw the frozen peas on top. I keep mixing it until they all cook down and then I add the meat on top and then I mix in my eggs. When it’s all done cooking, I chopped up my apple and blueberry and mix that in and after it cools, I mix in a little bit of calcium phosphorus. Then I’ve been taking and putting it into bowls and freezing it in my freezer in like three day portions, I have two dogs. So enough for each of them for three or four days. That way I can take it out defrost it put it in the fridge. But I don’t cook everything individually. I don’t usually use rice because in place of rice I give them a scoop of the dry dog food because it has more nutrition than just rice does. But it’s not necessary. It’s just the way I do it. I just got a freeze dryer so I’m gonna try freeze drying it and we’ll see how it does.

  41. @laurenburton226 on October 15, 2025 at 8:11 pm

I’m wondering if you can feed it without rehydrating it? My dog won’t eat mushy food!

  42. @DebVelezOID on October 15, 2025 at 8:11 pm

    Thank you so much 👌🏽💕

  43. @RudyRay01 on October 15, 2025 at 8:13 pm

My "Training Treats" recipe is – 1 lb chicken livers, 2 eggs, 1 cup soy flour, and sometimes a little cheese. Blend the liver and eggs in a food processor, stir in the soy flour (sometimes I use cornmeal). Spread out thinly in a pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cut into small pieces and freeze dry. My dogs will do just about anything for their treats.

  44. @tiffanyharris185 on October 15, 2025 at 8:13 pm

I thought the FD didn’t like peanut butter🤔

  45. @chrispacheco3938 on October 15, 2025 at 8:13 pm

What settings did you put the freezer at??

  46. @Thecarcissist12 on October 15, 2025 at 8:14 pm

The potatoes could probably go in with the rice if you cut it small enough

  47. @garethbirch5459 on October 15, 2025 at 8:15 pm

Why peel the sweet potatoes-dogs love the skins!

  48. @gorillamotors on October 15, 2025 at 8:16 pm

Where is the home made freeze dried cat food video?

  49. @Christine_A_M on October 15, 2025 at 8:16 pm

I’m 3 minutes in and (my first time here) & I make my dog’s food as well.. with the sweet potatoes in our recipe.. I wash, cut off the ends and score the top end-to-end (so the skin comes off easily later) & roast them in the oven. I try to save 1-2 sweet potatoes a batch to make my own pill pockets. I keep those in the fridge, in a separate bin. 🙂

Is this an incubator kitchen of some sort? I haven’t figured out which organ to sell just yet to get a freeze dryer, but i am happy to see some competition at long last! We have an older Staffy and now a 4mo Bernese so a big dog blend will be the go to. For the mean time i will just low temp dehydrate…
