Home Made Dog Food (with supplements)
Home Made Dog Food (with supplements)
***THE RECIPE, MORE INFO & LINKS BELOW***
Unless your dog or cat is making it’s own kill (eating the stomach contents as well as the tissues) a strict meat diet using muscle tissue will be deficient and will include “industry nastys” like antibiotics, chemical residue and GMO remnants.
Using organic (no chemicals & more nutrient dense than conventional), non-GMO (heirloom or natural hybrids) vegetation (no parasites, bacteria, additives, etc.) with the VegeDog supplement (nutrient filler for any gaps in nutrition from home feeding) will ensure you are feeding your companion(s) the best our modern world can offer.
Dogs need 2x the protein as humans
***Always choose organic when available***
**The Enzyme supplement is not required, but helps just as eating more raw veggies helps human health**

Taurine is a beta amino acid required by cats but not dogs. There are two reasons for this. First, the liver of the cat has a limited ability to make taurine, as the rate-limiting enzymes required for converting methionine and cysteine to taurine are only minimally active in the feline liver. Second, cats lose taurine in the secretion of bile acids (whereas other mammals also use glycine in the conjugation and secretion of bile acids, freeing up taurine for other uses). Found in the nervous system (including the retina) and muscles (especially the heart), taurine is one of the most abundant amino acids in the body (and is the most abundant free amino acid in the heart). It is thought to help regulate heartbeat, maintain cell membranes, and affect the release of neurotransmitters in the brain. Taurine also protects the heart from calcium overload and assists in calcium uptake by the heart cells during periods of hypoxia (reduced oxygen levels).
As mentioned above, dogs do not have a dietary requirement for taurine, since they can make it out of vitamin B and the amino acids methionine and cysteine. Cats cannot do this; as true carnivores, they require dietary taurine.

Essential, or indispensable amino acids are a group of amino acids that cannot be synthesized in the body and are thus required to be taken in through diet. This is a well known nutritional defect that is known to affect the health of cats when they are lacking taurine in their diet, but does not affect dogs in the same way, as dogs are able to synthesize taurine in their bodies. This is why taurine is usually not added to dog foods but is added to cat foods.
Certain breeds of dogs appear to be predisposed to taurine deficiency: American cocker spaniels and giant breed dogs like the Newfoundland, amongst others.

Pet food by-products:
“When a vet tells a grieving owner that they’ll “take care” of their dead loved one, they usually mean sending it off with the disposal company for rendering. This is all perfectly legal.

isn’t combining protein necessary for the essential amino acids? also which amino acids does a dog require?
How did you figure out how much your dog needed a day?
hi! how much do you feed your dog? i have 2 ten pound dogs i feed them about 1/2 cup twice a day , but i think that might be too much
Very easy to watch. Nice graphics and music. Beautiful narration and adorable dog. Lots of information!
Food combining is not necessary – It is not
A rat study from the 70’s claimed that and the researcher later (a year or two later) retracted it as incorrect. Funny how everyone knows about that ONE study (admitted wrong by the researcher who conducted the study) but knows nothing about the others.
Dogs are omnivores – Cats and reptiles are Carnivores
