My Chi x has had a heart murmer since she was 4 years old. She could still lead a quality life. Unfortunately she was diagnosed with CHF 3 weeks ago. She is now 12 years old. She is on Furosemide and Vetmedin. However Im struggling with her incontinence issues. Im sleeping on the couch so I can get her outside in time but she cant always make it. She dribbles as well. I have tried doggy diapers for through the night but she chews them off. I also have a 14 year old Apso and a 24 year old cat. I no longer have pet insurance and the Chis meds and vet bills are very high. I watched my husband dying of lung cancer and I dont want that to happen to my wee dog. I hope I can do the right thing when her time comes.

I have my 11 year old dog with CHF, he has been talking vetmedin and furosemide for aprox 9 mo. I wanted to try something natural, because I didnt see any improvements and his coughing was getting worst. I tried the dandelion leaf extract with the coenzyme Q10 for 5 days, (suspended the furosemide pills in the meantime) but one night he couldn’t breath and I felt his lungs were full of water, and had to return to the furosemide. I thought he was really improving, but maybe he had a relapse. I wonder if I can combine the dandelion leaf extract with the furosemide ? I live in Mexico and unfortunately my veterinarian is not aware of this natural remedies and is not able to help me.
    Thank you

  9. @sarah9751 on September 30, 2025 at 7:15 pm

Hi! Is it okay to use one that’s not alcohol based??

  10. @TryASMRWithMe on September 30, 2025 at 7:15 pm

Is Hawthorne tincture the same? I know it’s made out of hawthorn berries, but the Prairie Doctor has Hawthorne tincture and Hawthorne Berry tincture.

  11. @moobrien1747 on September 30, 2025 at 7:19 pm

    Enlarged heart

  12. @pandafox6088 on September 30, 2025 at 7:22 pm

My cat threw up giving it straight the first time lol but adding coq10 abs hawthorn they tight he was a grade 4 heart murmur with possibly hypertrophic cardiomyopathy but after being on those two I’ve had two different vets say it was a 2 now, I decided not to stress my 15 yr old man cat with diagnostics that we’d have to drive over an hour to and have him drugged just to get him there. But it seems to be working! If I could fix his teeth without doing a dental he’d be great- I’m working on that as well!

  13. @hannatapparel5533 on September 30, 2025 at 7:24 pm

You’re supposed to dilute tinctures with alcohol in water before giving it to animals or humans.

  14. @artistl-r9f on September 30, 2025 at 7:25 pm

Old video but is there a sub for the dandelion leaf extract from prairie doctor? no more of those on amazon 🙁 or what should I be looking for? there’s a sub on amazon but the flavor is chocolate and we all know dogs can’t have chocolate. both my dogs have heart problems and i just now found this video. Thank you!

  15. @Suca2209 on September 30, 2025 at 7:25 pm

  18. @Kat-n-Ollie on September 30, 2025 at 7:27 pm

Thank you. I will try this. I just inherited a cat with an enlarged heart. She’s 16 and pretty healthy otherwise. 👍🏼👍🏼

You’re awesome! Thank you! You are helping me so much! I would like to ween my dog off of Encard and Lasix and give her Hawthorne and Dandelion…she has responded so well to home remedies and I make all her food and treats…would you agree with this? I appreciate you!

  20. @Orëo1980 on September 30, 2025 at 7:29 pm

My cat recently got diagnosed with CKF & the vat also said that she has a heart murmur. I wish I knew if this was safe to give her. I can’t ask my vet. They will look at me as if I have 2 heads when I mention natural products 😟

  21. @RobGallo-t4t on September 30, 2025 at 7:30 pm

When you make these “holistic” recommendations, are they meant to be given with your Vet’s medical recommendations?

  22. @MG-dl1lo on September 30, 2025 at 7:31 pm

Dr. Jones thank you so so mich for all your videos and recommendations, because of one of your videos I started giving my dog this medication after about a week. I had to take him to the vet and he has congestive heart failure. But I can see how the medication with this natural herb is really helping my dog. Thank you again so so much for all your videos. My pug God willing will be turning 15 this year!

  23. @kristywilbur3745 on September 30, 2025 at 7:33 pm

Does the Hawthorne Tincture have alcohol in it? Should we be concerned about that?

  24. @asgard3118 on September 30, 2025 at 7:33 pm

And Strophantus gratus aka Strophanthin ❤

  25. @kellyreish on September 30, 2025 at 7:33 pm

@Dr Andrew Jones what are your thoughts on Mullein Leaf Extract?

  26. @Irina-ii3zn on September 30, 2025 at 7:34 pm

Hey Doc, we took Strophantin (Strophantus gratus) for the heart♥️

  27. @sparkysmom7149 on September 30, 2025 at 7:34 pm

The problem is, most of us are middle class with middle class income and cannot afford the ultra expensive vet care or insurance. Prices have become astronomical in the united states. Some of us have no other option but humane euthanasia. Its heart breaking we can’t get medical care to extend a pet’s life even just for a few months.

I have a Pom, 9 years old, with a heart murmur. Is there any natural remedy I can give my dog?

  36. @ineedhoez on September 30, 2025 at 7:45 pm

My 15 year old mini schnauzer just suddenly started coughing. Thought it was kennel cough at first and treated for that. They offered xrays but I refused because I thought they were just scamming. Luckily, I ran to youtube and found other vets talking about why x-rays are needed and other symptoms of CHF. Based on their differential diagnosis, I knew my dog had CHF. I decided to get the x-rays. He was diagnosed.

They offer an option for the cardiologist (minimum
1k). On top of the 1k i just forked out for the office visit, lans, and meds. I declined. The meds are the meds, regardless. Gave him vetmedin and Lasix. After 3 days, I got the coughing to decent place but he refused to eat or drink the next day. I am spraying his mouth with electrolyte water yo try to keep him hydrated.

I have to pull the lasix and vetmedin because he won’t eat anything. Hopefully. The lasix will clear out and i can get the electrolytes in him.

  37. @kaia_b on September 30, 2025 at 7:45 pm

I’ve just ordered pure hawthorn powder for my cat with cardiomyopathy. I’ve found dosage amounts for dandelion, taurine, carnatine, but cannot seem to find what the dose should be the Hawthorn berry powder. Can you tell me what it would be? He is 10 lbs. Thank you in advance!
The vet has him started on lasix and pemobendin, and wants me to start him on thyroid med methimazole) after he had a medical emergency with fluid was going into his body cavity around his bladder. As he’s stable now and back to his old self, I’d like to move him to more natural alternatives (his kidney and liver still good at 16 but worried these meds will definitely damage them)

You are so wonderful Dr. Andrew’s

  39. @wasabi6507 on September 30, 2025 at 7:49 pm

Dr Jones. I bought nhv hearty heart.. After watching ur videos. I bought that product with hawthorn. Another one is dandelion tea leaves.. Not delivered yet..
I’m disabled.. Those money are my savings…
I wan to save my rescue cat. She is my world…
She has went through three times peritoneal draining.. And her belly is bloated again.. He kidney are also affected…

I’m shattered… I have brain damage as chronic giddiness and headaches crippled me gor life..

I hope my rescued cat can wait for the hawthorn to arrive..
She is on frusimide but it seems working less effective.
She isn’t eating as much as before.. 😢

Thank you for your input 😊, my dog was diagnosed heart murmur 😮

  41. @dipishagurung3263 on September 30, 2025 at 7:51 pm

I still remember watching your videos when my dog had a cancer and my dog was on chemo and she was not having any food. You gave me a suggestion of giving her a coconut water to drink. And she actually survived and it has became a one year. Now she is suffering from heart failure and I don’t know what to do because there is no any vet here where I live and in our country there is no any treatment provided for dogs except rabies vaccines. Some vet invest their time and money for the well being of animals. It was too hard to find a doctor for her a year ago and now too I can’t find any doctor. I don’t know what shall I do,

  42. @boop4904 on September 30, 2025 at 7:52 pm

I wanted to get it- I was just holding a bottle of it in my hand in the co-op. But I just couldn’t get past the 55-65% grain alcohol content. I can’t believe that giving a 5 lb Chihuahua that much grain alcohol could possibly be a good thing.

How much Hawthorn tincture would you give a 23 pound CAT ? He’s also on Budesonide, Cisapride, Metamucil, and Miralax.

  45. @melindawong8413 on September 30, 2025 at 7:54 pm

When I give my furry friends any medication I rather use the dropper to fill into a gelatin capsule so that they get the full benefits of the medication.

  46. @Welcome2IsaTV on September 30, 2025 at 7:56 pm

I’m looking for any type of Advice:

My dog has been diagnosed 6 months ago (2B) and he refuses to take Vetmedin. Like, he hates it. He takes all over meds but tries to run when he sees Vetmedin. so much so that I have a feeling that he’s telling me that its making him sick. He didn’t have any heart disease symptoms otherwise than an enlarged heart. he just got an episode 3 weeks ago where he started getting fluid in his lungs. The ER gave him a LOT of furo and it damaged his kidneys (he is stage two kidney failure now) and we have been trying to manage ever since. Because of that, he stopped eating so I’m feeding him with a syringe. It’s been awful. I tried to give me as little of FURO as possible without hurting his breathing because he does NOT tolerate it.

Is there anything I can do for him? I’m going to get him on Calcium for the kidneys and CoQ10 and Dandelion tincture. But the Hawthorn… how can I deal with that vs Vetmedin? Has anyone had any experience changing those up safely? Dr. Jones, if you read this… do you have any advice for my poor boy? He’s a 14year old Shetland. he’s 18lbs because he lost so much weight because he doesn’t want to eat.

    I would appreciate anyone’s advice.
