Enrichment for Exotic Pets
Dr. La’Toya Latney, staff doctor in Animal Medical Center’s Avian & Exotic Pet Medicine service, discusses the importance of enrichment for exotic pets (rabbits, chinchillas, parrots, ferrets, guinea pigs, rats, turtles, bearded dragons and more) and shows how to make great toys from everyday items.
Hosted by Usdan Institute for Animal Health Education at Animal Medical Center. Recorded via Zoom.
Loved learning about all of the ways to enhance animals well being. I use to have an anole that lived about 5 1/2 years. I currently own 2 house rabbits and one red ear slider turtle. I loved that a lot of what you discussed about rabbits; I am already currently doing. However, from your discussion I learned that I may need to add the hay feeder that I used to use. I currently have hay in the litter boxes. I will have to offer both options to help exercise their neck muscles. I didn’t see much on enrichment for aquatic turtles but I will research that on my own. I feel like I need to refocus on the well being of my red ear slider. I enjoyed listening, watching and learning from this video. I love that you own so many animals as pets too! Thank you for sharing your pets and your knowledge. My pets are my enrichment; I love observing and interacting with them. They are also therapeutic! ð
This was great, very enjoyable instructor.
Very thorough and comprehensive look at safe and effective enrichment for an array of exotic animals!
This is wonderful! More talks by Dr. Latney, please!

I loved this discussion. After the presentation I bought a hanging hay feeder for my guinea pigs and now I know it is a healthier option for them.
