You really need to get him a dog specific med kit. Aspirin or Vetprofen, cerenia, an anti biotic (salve and pills), and anti histamine. Stypic, bleed stop, bandages, antiseptic, and a trauma kit if you’re in a hunting area
Whenever I go hiking with my dog, I have a harness for him that has two big packs on it and he carries his food and toys and puppy bags and anything, but I always carry the water because it’s so heavy
A lot of dogs like to carry light backpacks to feel like they’re working depending on the breed. You could get him one and have him carry his dog bowls and dog food 😂
I make my husky carry her own gear, plus her, older, little brother’s, who’s the toughest little chihuahua mix I have ever seen. But size does matter, lol so I make her carry his stuff😂
I use Liberty Mountain dog packs. Large. My husky is 80lbs. She’s a goof ball until she gets her pack on, then she’s all business😂
Not that it matters, but a Sherpa is not someone who carries things. They are a Tibetan ethnic group, and the name means “people of the east” or “eastern people.” I know you didn’t mean it as a pejorative, but I try pointing out to people that, while the Sherpa do have a history of climbing and carrying things since they have a history of living in high elevations, they are not mutually exclusive, and that a person who carries things for others is NOT CALLED a Sherpa. The correct terminology would be “porter.” Most people have no idea, and don’t use it to be mean or insensitive. Still, it’s good to know. Cheers.
That is so good you don’t put anything heavy on his back. He is 70 years old in human years… I can see he is a very distinguished and stoic gentleman… But he will start having serious back problems and hit problems from it. His walking all those miles is also not good for him at his age. But fish oil help my sister’s dog a lot with his hip problems that started around 11❤ They used to walk and hike for miles.
For my pup I used the flat sleeping pads with the reflective side for both of us and it works great~ my dog is medium sized and so on colder nights I would zip us both into my sleeping bag so that we are cuddling. Kept us both warm and if he woke up it would wake me up too (safety).
Personally I did use a backpack with my pup, but he only carried that days portion of food, travel bowl, and some extra fats and proteins so they’d be more accessible (olive oil, peanut butter, etc). Only real concern was making sure it was balanced correctly for him, as it was way below his weight limit. Had a blast, and I highly believe hiking/camping/backpacking with your dog is the best thing you can do for them and yourself!
What a handsome good boy. I think you might be my soul mate, solely based on the content of this short. I could have made nearly the exact same video, except my Nico is a 17 lb 2 year old Datsun.
I use an old talente ice cream lid and cup for my dogs water. That way I can set it down, unscrew the cap and then seal it back up after he is done drinking.
If you have space for it I’d recommend stipping powder in case of emergencies.
It stops bleeding quite quickly for pups, and can come in super handy but is also pretty lightweight!
Opening scenery is gorgeous!
Do you pack out the poo?
friend has a like 20kg doggie who has his own backpack, it has mostly the dogs stuff in there. and a gps collar
Bro, your dog living in luxury. Mine sleeps outside doesn’t have a jacket and uses the same bowl for water and food.
Aww this is so cute 😊. It is amazing you do so many adventures with him 😊 ❤.

You and I have very different understanding of simple 😅

Do you do anything to prevent his nails from popping the inflatable pad
I don’t know anything but could the ‘sweater’ just compress the air out of his fur and make him colder? It looks thinner overall

there is something vaguely consumerist and unnerving about this

"Sherpa" doesn’t mean people who carry bags. It’s a community originally from Tibet.
The Sherpa
Bring vet wrap, useful for dogs and humans

Anyone know what kind of dog
Hi which breed is this ? Thankss
Get one of those K9 unit dog vests and make him carry his own stuff. Soon enough you can make him carry your stuff
Sleeping with a dog is like sleeping with a kid: They just roll, twist and turn every 5 minutes 😂
