What would you recommend doing in the case of a cat scratch? Is soap and water (maybe hypochlorous acid after that) enough to prevent any possible infection, or is it ok to use alcohol, in this case? Thank you

  2. @PeaceNinja007 on August 31, 2025 at 5:48 pm

I got a gash on my lower leg playing soccer today. This is the protocol I’m doing:
    HOCL (hypochlorous acid) + Vaseline.
If people remind me, I’ll come back to give an update on how the healing progresses 👍

Thank you so much for this wonderful video .. I didn’t realize that hydrogen peroxide and alcohol could make a cut worse nor did I know about the dangers of neosporum

I have a pimple that it pop out under my testicle and yes is a pimple it not a sexual disease but sometime my pimples are so big they transform to wound and I can’t cure it I don’t know what to do any more

  15. @Tulku on August 31, 2025 at 6:05 pm

I have ten diagnosed topical allergens/irritants Lanolin, and Propylene Glycol (PG) is among them – Neosporin has PG in it- I’ve been using Polysporin and would like to know if you have an option on that?

  16. @giantrenovationconstructio2286 on August 31, 2025 at 6:06 pm

What? Vaseline or anything with petroleum is so bad for your body.

  18. @kathybarnes-lou2418 on August 31, 2025 at 6:06 pm

Would a sterile saline solution or spray help?

  19. @mooknee360 on August 31, 2025 at 6:07 pm

So, how effective is a saline solution at killing any bacteria in a wound, compared to hypochlorous acid?

  20. @mor2915 on August 31, 2025 at 6:07 pm

Is rubbing alcohol better than nothing? Also do tou use this method for any depth of cut?

  21. @QuanetteNeal on August 31, 2025 at 6:08 pm

I learned lots working in a Doctors office. I learned treatments as well as how much money patients wasted going to the doctor for things they could have done at home. 😂😂😂😂My kids rarely got sick unless they went over to other people’s houses. The glue trick is definitely worth investing in.

  22. @triggered-u8d on August 31, 2025 at 6:10 pm

8:07 this sounds like my lower leg wound area I’ve been calling venous something or another but hasn’t been officially diagnosed. Weird part is it is this red area that’s kind of fungusy, and I’ve showed it to 3 different doctors but they all tell me, ‘oh, I can’t do anything about that’ no advice, nothing, one literally said "EW" and he was supposed to be my PCP! He did meet me as I was leaving the building with an order for blood work. Another was urgent care, and emergency room, they couldn’t even point me in the right direction or tell me if it looked serious.

  23. @Gripester on August 31, 2025 at 6:12 pm

Think I will stick with neosporin for now. Heard Vaseline and petroleum products are a breeding ground for bacteria

  24. @apothecary3150 on August 31, 2025 at 6:12 pm

My nail split where the nail seperates from the skin from playing volleyball:( All the other videos I’ve watched only talk about how the wound heals or what not to do:'<

  25. @RandomMichael on August 31, 2025 at 6:13 pm

Here is an NIH study using DMSO on mouse skin wounds: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32167156/

"Low-concentration DMSO accelerates skin wound healing by Akt/mTOR-mediated cell proliferation and migration in diabetic mice"

What do you think of medi-honey for wounds?

  28. @budgiebirdy on August 31, 2025 at 6:14 pm

I have a cut on my finger, not bleeding and no redness or pain, but I can’t get the skin to heal shut. Dr. Sugai, I’m taking your advice and have some active spray on order and is due to arrive tomorrow. I’m hoping your suggestion helps, cause I’m getting desperate here. 🤞🤞🤞🤞

  29. @TheWoundDoc on August 31, 2025 at 6:14 pm

So glad this video exists-hydrogen peroxide and Neosporin are still the go-to for so many, even though they absolutely delay healing.

Dr. Sugai lays it out clearly: just because something stings or bubbles doesn’t mean it’s helping. Hypochlorous acid + petrolatum-based ointments have made a massive difference in healing rates in my outpatient wound care clinic.

One patient used peroxide daily on a leg ulcer-until we stopped it, protected the tissue, and kept the wound moist. That’s when healing finally started.

Love seeing dermatologists speak up with practical, science-backed guidance like this. It truly helps shift the standard of care forward.

As a mom, this was so helpful! I had an allergic reaction to Neosporin after a surgery yesterday ago, awful to have the rash around a wound! Dr. S is so right!!

    GOOD INFO

  33. @MuditVerma on August 31, 2025 at 6:17 pm

Is there a such thing as too much Neosporin (assuming I’m not allergic to it)?

  34. @lmnop599 on August 31, 2025 at 6:19 pm

Why would drying the skin work but not rehydration we are mostly water

  35. @2LittyCOMMITTEE on August 31, 2025 at 6:20 pm

Thanks I’ll pass on this advice to my skater community. I’m currently dealing with road rash. Haven’t had anything on it for a few days because I used neosporen for a week now after watching this i put aquaphor on the wound and I hope it doesn’t get worse.

  36. @TomFoolery9001 on August 31, 2025 at 6:22 pm

Is there a downside to Neosporin if you DON’T have an allergy to it? Would Vaseline still be better than Neosporin or would Neosporin be better in this case?

  37. @sandyjohnson5111 on August 31, 2025 at 6:22 pm

My Mom’s solution to cuts on your hand was to wash dishes. So if you had a cut on your hand or finger you were the one who had to wash, while another sibling dried the dishes.

  38. @KrozlM on August 31, 2025 at 6:22 pm

We have stopped using antibiotic cream and now use soap, water and aquaphor. I am going to try the cerave healing ointment to see if that works better on my son’s eczema. Thank you for the info.

  39. @amritawhitman8112 on August 31, 2025 at 6:23 pm

Wow – this is great information! I didn’t know hydrogen peroxide can remove blood stains from clothing! I’ve used it for years on cuts and I had NO idea that it actually delays wound healing and how it does that! Thank you!

  40. @cindypalumbo7503 on August 31, 2025 at 6:27 pm

Thank you!! I just had to show my boyfriend this video as he was reaching for the hydrogen peroxide!! He immediately put it back!!

  42. @CNP-rn3gd on August 31, 2025 at 6:29 pm

I’m an RN and nurses are experts at wound care. Soap and water or normal saline for cleaning and then Aquaphor or similar occlusive goop. Keep the wound covered. Hydrogen Peroxide and Neosporin are no-no’s.

Can I put mupirocin on an open wound?!

  48. @Xtariz on August 31, 2025 at 6:37 pm

Me scraping my knee to the bone on the asphalt after a very bad bike fall in my teens… Kept it a secret until it was healed… then found out it could be very easily infected…
Thankfully I did my best to clean it everyday… Lifelong scar and a reminder to not be dumb again…

Soap & water, and hand sanitizer works wonders… (but yeah should’ve probably seen a doctor if it goes down to the bone)
