Because this is for seniors, is it lower in protein? Our dog had a bladder stone a few months ago and the vet put her on a lower protein "prescription" dog food. I hate giving that to her, it is mostly just grains and the ONLY meat source is chicken meal. The rest is nothing but junk. We pay a small fortune to feed our dog a bag of grains and junk. To be honest the money really isn’t an issue, its only an issue because I feel it is a rip off to pay that much money for a bag of grains, unhealthy oils and artificial junk. I want so much to give her good healthy homemade food but don’t know how to adapt a recipe to the lower protein she is supposed to have. And it can’t be really high in fat because years ago she had a ‘possible’ pancreatitis attack. I want her to have the healthiest food possible. So, So frustrating.
❤❤❤ helpful content as always. Thank you, Dr. Jones. You are one of a kind. May God protect you and your lovely family always. Love from the Philippines
I wonder how much is too much of a good thing? I heard you cant feed too much kale. Is it ok for 65 lbs dog to eat a cup a kale a day without too much oxalate ?! I feel like it’s hard to know what he needs to limit as far as natural food goes….
Any vegan-friendly alternatives?
Fantastic job & Video! Thank You so much!

I am going to buy your Krill oil tablets..question is – can I take this for myself also? Or do I need to buy "human grade"?
Is there anything especially good for my senior greyhound. You often hear greyhounds need some different things to other breeds. What you are making is very similar to what I feed my elderly grey.
Thankyou for your channel
Thanks for all your contributions Doc, but can you point me in the right direction for puppies? I can’t seem to find much of anything out there. Greatly Appreciated
What’s your opinion on the Critical Immune Defense powder by Pet Wellness Direct?

What is the condition of her stools with this particular blend?
Can you please advise… my 10 yr old Frenchie has started losing weight mostly muscle mass. All of her labs ie liver, kidney, pancreas, heartworm, UTI test came back normal.
She is on a home cooked diet which she’s been on for over 2 yrs with no issue. Added in an adult multivitamin and 300mg calcium citrate. I’ve thought of adding a good kibble as a supplement.
And a good probiotic.
Her diet has yogurt and turmeric in it as well.
Thats alot for a day! So whats in kibble this is scary for dry food.
I’m new to this channel. I have a 14-year-old coaapoo. Miles Davis. My current living condition is less desirable. When I listened to you talk about diet foods I freaked out. Thinking I’m doing the best for him, when possibly making things worse. He has an enlarged heart. I’ve spent so much money vet bills are out of control. I’m 75yrs suffering from health issues. My dog needs to be expressed after watching you doing that, all could see was my dog turning into cojo trying to bite me. Help me!
Well I’m just new at starting to make my lil guy homemade food ..and there is so much to know I don’t know if in doing it right ..I boiled chicken thighs and than made white rice from the same water I boiled the chicken. Is there anyway to buy dried already cooked meat?
I also have a Tula. Poodles are the best! 🐩🐾
What can we give instead of brown rice? Is sweet potato ok to give instead ?
My elderly dog loves this recipe! Thank you for sharing this Doc! 🙂
I’m a fan girl here!! Why the rice? Where would they get that in the wild ? And kale ? Hmmm. These may give me pause but my pets have benefited from your education here so much🥳🥳🥳
Do you eat it to her 1/2 of it at a time so she gets two meals a day or how do we do that?
Is there any natural foods or supplements that might help laryngeal paralysis
Dr I am a little puzzled. Not too long ago you 😂mentioned Tula’s liver count wa a little high and you suggested to eliminate any food with organ meat in it. Infact you even showed this brand of dry food that has no liver . Hower i see now you are including liver in this recipe. My dog has the same issue with his liver, so now I’m totally confused 😮
Do you feed your dod once a day?
Any suggestions to replace carrots, my dog hates them!
I use bone broth for my dogs bones
Happy to watch all ads and never skip any for this wonderful channel. ❤🎉
What about turmeric?
Grass fed organic beef, pasture raised organic egg, local unfiltered raw honey, wild blueberries or organic berries, peptides, turkey tail mushroom powder, NAC, and wild sockeye salmon oil
My dog is allergic to chicken. I am afraid to take a chance on turkey. Is cod a good protein option?
20 yo boarder collie that still plays ball and geeding a very similar recipe but i add blueberries and frozen peas, and sweet potatoes and pumpkin seeds.
Thank you so much ❤️🙏
Saturated fat for humans is now on the okay list. Not for dogs? Thx for your helpful channel.
Can we swap brown rice for sweet potato and zuchinni for kale? What do you give if you can’t give krill or any fish oil?
Please do recipe for CKD – I have a 10 yr old doodle was just diagnosed with CKD, I was told to feed less protein and low phosphorus, her 4th blood test was done on Friday. And what’s the take on sweet potatoes 🤷🏼♀️ don’t they have a lot of sugar? I need a healthy diet for her – please Dr. Jones we need help 😢
Thank you for your videos. I started cooking my dogs food quite some time ago. I did feed them raw food at times and different dog foods that are healthy and organic to have in their bowl they do like to snack on. The vet gave them antibiotics but only because they had upset stomach. Then the vet was an older vet and he said finally to keep them on it as they had upset stomach again but I had to call in and go purchase it every 2 weeks at the vet. I ended up finding the same probiotics online no vet prescription. The vet also didn’t encourage fixing their own food for them but pet food but I decided to continue this on my own and adding fish oils etc. Thank you for the added information
Which cup do you use, doctor?
What is the name of your probotic, I tried to find it.
How do you do this recipe when you have multiple dogs? Can you make a large batch for all of them?
And never forget real sea salt which is vital !
such a cute dog)
Question Dr Jones can dogs eat raw eggs? I seen some dog diet nutritionist give raw eggs
I git 7 year old yorkiepoo dog this is great recipe can you ground up egg shells to put in this recipe
Is it generally necessary to add supplements to the food if I already give my dog daily supplements such as those Zesty Paws multivitamin treats? I want to start feeding my dog homemade food but don’t want to give her too many supplements
Would this diet be okay for a dog with pancreatitis? She’s a 13 year old senior.
Loved this video, Dr. Jones. I also make homemade meals for my senior dog Bella (she’s 15), usually with ground turkey or chicken, a bit of liver, eggs, and some veggies like carrots and spinach. I’ve been adding Dog Greens Superfood Blend, it’s all organic greens like barley grass, spirulina, and sea moss to round out her nutrients naturally. I really appreciate how you emphasize using real food and organ meats for senior dogs!
Ha! Tula on the kitchen counter…i love that.
I make homemade food and I use Ultimate Canine original for my 3 year old and advanced for my 14 1/2 year old. Do I still need to add the calcium carbonate because there is calcium in the supplements?
@Veterinary Secrets Thanks for all the invaluable information you provide. I just started feeding home cooked to our 2 dogs, a lab/rottweiler senior and a rhodesian ridgeback senior. I add supplements. I am wondering, would you double the amount of supplements if your dog is 100 lbs, and 1/4 more of the supplements if your dog is 75 lbs ? I have salmon oil for dogs in a pump bottle and it says to give more according to the weight of the dog. So I imagine it goes the same for the other supplements as in add more according to weight ?
