8 dollars thats very expensive i make my terrariums for free just take a jar or a plastic bottle get stones and soil from outside and a plastic bag for the substrate divider or what you want to call it and then put that together then you go to the forest and find everything else this maybe not optimal but 30 minutes and i have some terrariums that are half a year old and still perfectly healthy
Terrariums r not expensive as someone who has 8 healthy terrariums
1. Cheap jars from thrift store
2. Rocks and dirt from literally my backward for substrate and drainage
3. Random weeds and moss from my back yard
4. Water, seal and boom my terrarium lasted very a year and counting
As a pretty seasoned terrarium builder I’m sorry to inform you that that terrarium isn’t going to last long. Garden soil isn’t the best terrarium substrate, as it compacts easily, and is too nutrient rich. Also the plant you used, a cyclamen by the way, won’t last long in a high-humidity environment as it is used to living outside.
However, it is very possible to build a terrarium for under Β£10. Here is how I would do it:
1. Save money on your container by looking in charity shops for a couple of quid, or get one for "free" by using a sauce jar.
2. A better substrate (soil) would be a mix of coco coir and sphagnum moss. I found a coco coir brick in pets at home for Β£3.50, and you can find sphagnum moss outside in may countries including the UK, just look up what it looks like. Mix in a tiny bit of garden soil for nutrients.
3. For plants, many common houseplants work great! Think spider plants, small ferns, fittonia (which comes in cool colours if that’s what you want) , tradescantia, and begonia. For moss, you can get that outside, I recommend fern moss.
4. Add more decorations for free like rocks and sand, I would stay away from wood for your first terrarium as it can mould.
POV I just made a terrarium and it was in a small jar and here is how I made it and it was so cheap .Was started on 23/9/24
Stones $from the garden
Paper $just found it
Soil $in wheel barrow
Succulent leaf and bud $a few less leaves in giant garden
Some slight bigger stones $also from garden
Jar $2
Me, who has spent too much time learning and building vivariums, seeing this disaster take place
Terrariums arenβt expensive at all, unless u make it urself with knowledge about terrariums and with certain materials with better quality
very creative good stuff
Shame on you for enslaving that isopod for your entertainment. This is illegal btw.
